Synopsis

With an economic crisis looming, Karel Baracs takes us on a tour of Amsterdam through his life and work, where he is the official City Storyteller. He trains adults in the art of telling their own stories, takes children on a tour of a neighborhood where everyone has a story – and every story is a tiny miracle. His performances span theaters, parks and cultural events as he connects with audiences throughout the city. He muses on the importance of storytelling as tensions mount and political change washes across the Netherlands. In a final performance, he organizes a group of storytellers for the largest maritime festival in the Netherlands. While he demonstrates the lengths that storytelling can reach, the new government issues an edict on arts and cultural funding. Will this be the last year for the Storyteller of Amsterdam?
