As a child Melvin always knew he was gay and never thought anything of it, that is until he was undesirably discharged from the Navy during WWII due to his homosexuality. This discharge forever changed Mel's life and the life of his, then lover, Dale. While one man overcame the challenges placed before him because of the discharge, one man did not.
