Bio

Josh is an Oscar-shortlisted producer & director based in Los Angeles. True/False Film Festival called him “a distinct and exciting voice in nonfiction cinema,” and the British Film Institute’s Sight & Sound Magazine called his first documentary “in some ways the perfect distilled True/False film.”

His work has premiered at Sundance, True/False, SXSW, TIFF, DOC NYC and Hot Docs; been featured by The New York Times, PBS, Sight & Sound, MSNBC, Dazed & Confused, and Vimeo Staff Picks; and screened in documentary courses at UCLA, Dartmouth College, Vassar College and The New School.

Most recently, he produced and co-wrote the feature documentary One Road to Quartzsite (dir. Ryan Maxey) which premiered at Big Sky Documentary Festival 2022, where it won the jury prize for Best Feature.

In 2018, his debut feature documentary MexMan premiered in competition at Slamdance where it won Grand Jury and Audience honors, and a doc short he produced, My Dead Dad’s Porno Tapes (dir. Charlie Tyrell), premiered at Sundance, won the Jury Prize at SXSW, became a New York Times Op-Doc, and was shortlisted for an Academy Award.

Josh lead produced the first season of the Duplass Brothers’ indie-animated series Animals., which premiered at Sundance and sold for 2 seasons to HBO; Manson Family Vacation (dir. J. Davis) which premiered at SXSW and sold to Netflix; and Only the Young (dir. Elizabeth Mims, Jason Tippet) which won at AFI Fest and Cinema Eye Honors and sold to Oscilloscope Laboratories.
