Bio
Michael Fiore is the owner and Chief Creative Officer of Fiore Media Group, a New York-based hybrid production company and film sales agency developing and producing high-concept work for film, television and digital platforms. A multi-disciplined filmmaker, Fiore works across producing, directing, writing and editing, bringing an unusually integrated perspective to storytelling.
He is drawn to stories where the surface story is rarely the whole story, and to characters whose lives reveal something larger about power, identity, resilience, legacy and the world around them.
In the aughts, Fiore began his documentary career creating short-form nonfiction featurettes for studios including Warner Bros. (the re-release of "The Wizard of Oz") and filmmakers such as Tom DiCillo and Michael Hoffman before moving into feature-length documentary filmmaking.
His feature documentaries include "Veselka: The Rainbow on the Corner at the Center of the World" (Prime Video), named a “must-see documentary” by CNN, and "Floyd Norman: An Animated Life" (Netflix, HBO Max, TCM, Criterion), chronicling the life of Disney animation legend Floyd Norman. Both films received successful North American theatrical releases through Fiore Media Group and earned places on the Academy’s official eligibility lists for consideration in Documentary Feature and other applicable Oscar categories. For "Veselka", Fiore Media Group also partnered with Planeta Kino for a theatrical release in Ukraine, bringing the film to audiences in the country at the heart of its story.
Fiore is currently writing and editing a new feature documentary directed by ABC News journalist Byron Pitts, editing a nine-part docuseries exploring the mysteries of dreams titled "Between Two Worlds", and producing the untitled follow-up to Netflix’s "Bad Vegan", among other projects.
Fiore studied filmmaking at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film & Television (UGFTV ’99). Under the mentorship of Nick Tanis, he developed the multi-disciplinary approach that defines his work today.
That breadth has shaped the way he approaches nonfiction storytelling. As Fiore says, “The best documentary decisions are rarely about protecting the story you set out to tell. They’re about having the discipline to recognize when the people, the footage and the journey have revealed a better one."
