Dream City focuses on the microactions of Diana's life and surrounding environment. The film is centered around Diana's home in Sulaymaniyah. Flashbacks to a more vibrant time in Erbil, 16mm footage and scenes filmed on rare excursions outside the house are blended with her internal thoughts, the reality of her former life and hopes negated by the confines of her home.
The total running time is 52 minutes. It was shot with a DSLR camera, a 16mm Krasnogorsk-3 film camera, and a Canon Super8 camera. The principle photography took place on two trips to the region; one in March 2014 and one year later in March 2015, with additional footage mined from previous visits in 2011 and 2012.
