- Show treatment
A forgotten national ballet company, set in a theatre still under construction is shaken into life by the arrival of Julio Bocca, one of the best ballet dancers of all time. Retired and looking for a new place in the world of dance, Bocca accepts the challenge to direct this company and take it to international competition standards.
To this aim he puts his name at stake to face the dilemmas between art and management in a highly bureaucratic state system.
A group of young dancers from different backgrounds leave everything behind and do not hesitate to audition to become part of the new dance company. This implies merging with the old permanent dance staff in a highly competitive environment.
Three brothers, a young ballet promise and an upcoming dancer, among others, become with Bocca the protagonists of this process in which details are as important as big decisions.
Avant explores this space under construction through the observation of its daily routine in a changing scenery that frames the lives of dancers, workers, technicians and cleaners. The film is the portrayal of a change which provides a view on who we are through what we do.
