Norman Bowman is a retired mental health nurse. The Weight of Listening is a short documentary portrait of Norman, and the first film in Fending Off, a seven-part series made in Northern Ireland in which each film follows a different person and their own way of fending off poor mental health. The film won the Audience Award for Best Irish Short Film (Programme 4) at Cinemagic Festival 2026 in Belfast.
