The Story of Billy London (working title)

Like so many gay men of his generation, Bill Newton was taken at the prime of his youth, but not by AIDS, rather Billy was murdered. For 33 years his death was a mystery. It was finally solved because devoted individuals decades after his murder focused their efforts on bringing justice to Billy. The awful and shocking truth is that Billy's death was a hate crime. Matthew Shepard is the name the world knows when we think of hate crimes directed towards gay men. The murder of Billy was absolutely no different. But the only difference is that Billy was killed in the center of the community which was supposed to be a safe haven for gay men. His killer wanted to instill fear in the community. This documentary serves to rectify a piece of history and memorialize the effort to give justice to a young man who represented so many others that came to big cities from small towns where they were not safe. Our film's production includes people who have been volunteering time, research, and skills. This project has been the recipient of incredible love and generosity from the community whose story is being told.
