La Rinascita della Venere

The monumental version of Venus of the Rags by Michelangelo Pistoletto in Naples has risen from its own ashes, reborn around the steel skeleton salvaged from the previous version, which was destroyed in an arson attack during the night of July 11–12, 2023.

Paradoxically, the incendiary and desecrating act of a man in difficulty and on the margins of society has added new layers of meaning to Pistoletto’s Venus. In agreement with the Mayor, the artist chose to rebuild the burned sculpture at his own expense and donate it to the city of Naples.
