Synopsis

A GOOD WOLF [working title] examines a 40-year conflict over state-managed lands adjacent to Alaska’s iconic Denali National Park. This small stretch of land, known as the Wolf Townships or Stampede Corridor, protrudes into the northeast corner of Denali’s federally protected area. Since this area is vital habitat for prey species such as caribou, predators from the park routinely make forays across the invisible boundary, exposing them to legal hunting and trapping under permissive state policies. This creates a direct conflict between the shared interests of the park and its allies, and a powerful hunting and trapping lobby with state government on its side. Although only a few trappers operate in this area, statewide and even international sport-hunting interests have become entrenched on this hyper-local conflict. A GOOD WOLF explores the complexities of this conflict through three character-driven viewpoints: wildlife activists, federal biologists, and hunters/trappers.
