Scenes from Deseret

Initially intended as a sequel to James Benning's amazing film "Deseret" (1995), this project ended up as a 2-channel video installation. Channel one shows a sunrise for 15 minutes or so; as the sun rises, the image 'naturally' gets brighter. Channel two shows 29 images of the landscape of Utah, edited in order of descending brightness, so that channel two gets darker in proportion to t channel one's increasing brightness. In the middle of the program, both screens have the same average brightness.
