Palleca tandu - C etait Palleca

A film about how life used to be in the village of Palneca in Corsica, through informal conversations with the elders, about how communities lived through the seasons and how they organised transhumance, gardening, herding, breeding, exchanging, the role of the church and ancient beliefs, about the landscape, about places travelled for generations, and about the material data provided by the topography, by song and poetry about the past, the present and the place.
More and more so in my films, I use an array of sources, treating all data as possible information. In this film, the data used includes speech, song, poetry, landscape, photography, topography, material markers, ritual, ceremony...
The film is bilingual Corsican-French and restitues the local expression as recorded during filming and transcribed by Corsican speakers, native to the village and its outlying districts, hence treating both languages on a par, as opposed to subtitling in French only the speech in Corsican.
