the story of the historic battle between the squatters of the Lower East Side and NYPD
- History and Politics
In the predawn hours of May 30, 1995, the city of New York led by “America’s Mayor” Rudy Giuliani sent SWAT teams and a tank to forcibly evict a coalition of squatters who had occupied and restored abandoned buildings on the Lower East Side.
Through interviews and archival footage, Anytime Baby will trace the events, origins, and repercussions of this historic standoff, and connect the squatters’ crusade to New York City’s housing and income inequality crises that persist to this day.
