Synopsis

“Seconds Out: Undaunted”

by Kevin Kalunian

At age sixteen, Aleksandra Magdziak immigrated alone to America’s hometown Plymouth, Massachusetts, from Poland in search of the American Dream.

Over the next two and a half decades, her journey led to a college education, a law degree, citizenship, and the amateur boxing arena where she would meet her future husband.

“Seconds Out: Undaunted” details Aleks’ highs – and lows – both in and out of the boxing ring. With husband-trainer Wayne Lopes in her corner, Aleks fights her way to the top and, in the process, discovers the true meaning of success in life.

Aleksandra’s quest for a world boxing title was overshadowed by the tragic death of Wayne’s oldest son, Manuel Antonio Lopes, who was an undefeated professional boxer.

Aleksandra and Wayne find they must now overcome personal pain as they prepare to fight in the final bout of HBO's celebrated history of boxing program.
