Toma Peiu

New York-based writer and filmmaker Toma Peiu is currently pursuing an MA in Media Studies at The New School University in New York City, as a Dean's Fellow. He holds a BFA in Screenwriting and Film Studies from the National University of Theatre and Film in Bucharest, Romania.

Toma is a Teaching and Research Assistant at The New School's School of Media Studies, specializing in Documentary film. His thesis documentary, "Places of Interest" is currently in post-production.

His interests beyond the moving image include a variety of media, as well as philosophy, politics and anthropology. 

The short narrative films he wrote or co-wrote were presented in over 80 film festivals and events worldwide. The latest short he wrote, O lume nouă / Start Anew World, directed by Luiza Pârvu, was released theatrically and premiered on HBO Romania. In 2014, together with his partner Luiza Pârvu, Toma has founded the Bucharest-based production company, Root Films.
