Bio

Susannah Mars has been based in Portland, Oregon, for the past twenty-five years, and has appeared in over one hundred productions, concerts, and recordings around the country. Prior to COVID she was Mrs. Lovett in Portland Opera’s production of Sweeney Todd and was heading to Canada to reprise that role.

She is deeply committed to audio description in theatrical and film arenas, and is working to increase awareness of equity and representation in the field in addition to writing and voicing audio description herself.

She is a resident artist at Artists Repertory Theatre, was Diana in Artists Rep’s award winning production of Next To Normal.

She was Margaret in Portland Playhouse’s The Light In The Piazza, which was awarded the Portland Drama Critics award for best musical of the 2013-2014 season.  She has enjoyed working at Portland Center Stage in The Fiddler On The Roof, as Golde, Mama Rose in Gypsy, Merideth in Bat Boy, and Mother in Ragtime among others.

In November 2021, she'll return to Cairo, Egypt as an arts envoy for the U.S. State Department on a project entitled "Home."

She's appeared on NBC’s GRIMM, as Drew Wu’s psychiatrist, Dr. Richet, and was proud to be awarded a Regional Arts and Culture Council Council grant for her multi-media musical piece “Good Grief.”
