Sarah Carlson has a diverse skill set and resumé, beginning as an editor and a shooter and now Producing and Directing, as well as editing much of her work. She began her career in 1998, editing for Emmy award winning Cinematographer Nancy Schiesari on her narrative short, “Loaves and Fishes,” which premiered at SXSW and aired on PBS’s The Territory. She worked as an editor and assistant edited Schiesari’s feature length Documentary, Hansel Mieth Vagabond Photographer on one of the pioneering women photojournalists of Time Magazine, Hansel Mieth. The film aired on PBS’s POV. Shortly thereafter, Sarah directed and edited the four part Teaching With Technology video series for the state of Idaho which utilized documentary examples to train teachers. From 2008 through 2010, Sarah produced and directed Food Deserts in Land of Plenty, a half hour documentary on community empowerment through growing local food, which was requested to air on Chicago public television and the Urbana-Champaign PBS station. In 2007 She wrote, produced, and directed “Chicken,” a 20 minute narrative short which was accepted in to competition at the LA shorts fest in the Best Female Director Category. While in Chicago, she freelanced as an Editor and occasional shooter on hour long episodic content for the cable television, commercials, political advertising and nonprofits. Now in the Hudson Valley, she works primarily for nonprofit clients at her company Growing Films where she has completed several acclaimed films including: Building for Everyone, the RUPCO story, River Crossings, Contemporary Art Come Home, among others. She is currently working on a doc series project in the Mid-Hudson Valley, New York.
