Montreal, Canada 1985 – Once upon a time a boy from Ontario met a girl from Quebec. He could not speak French and she could not speak English. So they, of course, got married, had a baby, and started a film company.

Three kids, and lots of productions, the girl speaks English now while the boy's French is...well...hmm...better!

With several projects financed in development, our current productions include:

1. Deux Filles, Un Hebdo (HD Prime Time Broadcast) is in on-air at Canal D/Bell Media. Shootfilms distribution.

2. Les Femmes des Casernes (HD Prime Time Broacast) is in post-production and will air on SRC/RDI. Shootfilms distribution.

3. The Canadian Warhorses (4k Theatrical Feature Documentary) is in pre-production with Heritage Canada & Canal D/Bell Media. Scheduled for a 2018 release. K Films distribution.

Rick Blackburn is an award-winning producer of several documentary films with his own company, Shootfilms, and in association with the National Film Board of Canada. His first production, kicks, won Best Direction, Best Editing and Best of the Festival at the 1998 KIDS International Youth Film Festival in Toronto. Rick’s second film, the NFB feature-length documentary entitled Salt, premiered at the 2000 Festival of New Cinema and New Media and won Most Innovative, at the Reel To Reel Youth Film Festival in
Vancouver and a Bronze Plaque (1st Runner-Up) at the Colombus International Film and Television Festival.

Today Rick's industry CV includes several one hour and feature-length documentaries, as well as new media websites and documentary series. As the president and producer at Shootfilms, his clients include Radio-Canada, RDI, TV5, TFO, and Cirque du Soleil. Rick also oversees Studio Morin Heights and all production workflows. Recently, this role allowed him the privilege to deliver Québec's first documentary series (13x26) broadcasted in HD.

Combining the emergent creativity of Canada’s next-wave filmmakers with an established excellence in film & multimedia production, Shootfilms provides high-quality broadcast content that is accessible and relevant to modern viewers.

Founded in 1998 by Louise Leroux & Rick Blackburn, Shootfilms has produced several 1-hour and feature-length documentaries, series & websites. Most of their productions are multiple award winners and enjoy very respectable ratings in their program slots.

Most recently, Planète Prise 2, the first documentary series broadcast in HD in Quebec was nominated for a Phenix Environmental Award. Studio Morin Heights Inc is our in- house production facility. Situated in the beautiful Laurentian Mountains. It offers complete 4k production and 2k post, including a 35T server, color grading & 5.1 mix.
