Bio

  Charles Konowal began his filmmaking career with the award winning animation production SCHIZOPHRENIC SUPERMAN  with an independent filmmaking co-operative in Vancouver,B.C.  There he cut his teeth making a variety of commercial, documentary and dramatic productions.    In the 80's  he photographed,  directed and produced numerous films for the  National Film Board of Canada and independently directed the short subjects A QUIET MOMENT and the award winning PASSING SHADOWS . In 1987 he relocated to Winnipeg,  Manitoba to finish MOZABIQUE: Building a Future for the NFB Studio C and soon after was contracted by the Imax Corporation to co- produce,  the first Imax Magic Carpet production, FLOWERS IN THE SKY for the Osaka, Japan 1990 Garden and Greenery Expo.  In the 90's, Charles directed GLIMMER OF HOPE, a one hour documentary on alternative justice for the NFB and produced and photographed the feature length documentary FAT CHANCE, which won a Peabody Award. During this time he started developing his career as a 2nd unit director of photography on various theatrical and television productions.  Currently, Charles continues to work as a cinematographer on both dramatic and documentary productions in Canada. And as a producer is developing ARCTIC DEFENDERS, a feature documentary with John Walker Productions and a fictional web based series with the rockabilly duo, the Farrell Bros.
