Bio
Gabriela Garcés is an Ecuadorian film editor and post-production manager with a focus on documentary storytelling that delves into gender, culture, and social impact. She began her career with 52 Segundos, a feature film directed by Javier Andrade that recounts the 2016 Manabí earthquake through an intimate lens. The film was showcased at the Hot Docs International Documentary Festival in Canada and won Best Editing at the Kunturñawi Festival in 2019, marking Gabriela's first engagement with impactful, culturally rooted narratives.
In 2018, she collaborated with the musical group "Antakarana," editing a series of short films that documented their tour through Ecuador and explored the Afro and Indigenous vocal heritage central to the country’s cultural identity. She later edited the award-winning short film La Sorpresa, which won Best Short Film and was nominated for Best Editing at the El Farol Suspense Festival in 2019.
Gabriela’s recent work includes Rescatando Sabores, a TV documentary series celebrating Ecuador's culinary landscape and its role in preserving cultural heritage, shortlisted for the 2023 LUX Awards. Currently, she is editing Forajida, a feature documentary about activist Elena Larrea, whose work rescuing animals and creating a sanctuary for horses speaks to the resilience and compassion at the core of social change.
Based in Mexico, Gabriela brings her passion for stories centered on gender, identity, and cultural resilience to her work as an independent film and video editor. Her projects reflect her dedication to capturing voices and perspectives often underrepresented in mainstream media, aiming to bridge cultures and advocate for meaningful dialogue.
