Bio
Anisa Sabiri is a London-based Tajik writer-director. Beginning as an avant-garde poet at the age of 13, she worked as a tour guide across the mountains in Central Asia before receiving the Tajik State National Literature award in 2014.
Her films and projects in development have earned international recognition at festivals and platforms, including Busan International Film Festival, Berlinale, Klassiki, Ji.hlava, Riga International Film Festival, goEast, Edinburgh Pitch and Asian Film Archive, amongst others. A UK-Chevening Scholarship recipient, she undertook an MA in Screenwriting at the London Film School, winning the Outstanding Screenwriting Award (2021) for her feature screenplay. Her completed short films include REDEMPTION (2017), THE CRYING OF TANBUR (2018), RHYTHMS OF LOST TIMES (2021) and PINK TREE (2023).
She has been an alumna of the Berlinale EFM Doc Toolbox-23, goEast East-West Talent Lab, Sheffield Future Producers and BAFTA & CHANEL Busan Asian Film Academy, where she has been supervised by Suwa Nobuhiro.
She is the DYCP award recipient from the Arts Council England. She is a member of the Directors UK and the Documentary Association of Europe, and holds a position as a senior lecturer at the University of Central Asia, where she teaches film.
