Alex Juhasz Pro

Dr. Alexandra Juhasz is a Distinguished Professor of Film at Brooklyn College, CUNY. She makes and studies committed media practices that contribute to political change and individual and community growth. She is the producer of (and actor in) the renowned feature fake documentaries The Watermelon Woman (Cheryl Dunye, 1996 and its remaster, 2016) and The Owls (Dunye, 2010). For decades, she has written, directed, and produced her own documentary features and shorts which have screened widely in feminist, queer, and experimental documentary festivals, including Naming Prairie, a Sundance official selection, about a Jewish lesbian babynaming ceremony. She has recently completed a personal DIY experimental feature documentary, Please Hold (2024, 70 mins), and is producer of a docufiction on Valerie Solanas with the documentary director, Erin Cramer.
