Bio
Currently I'm an RA and TA at UNT's Media Arts department where I am enrolled in the MFA in documentary film program. I am the former editor-in-chief of Daily News Egypt (2006-2012), which was the local publishing partner of the International Herald Tribune. Then the only female editor of a daily national newspaper, I published a widely read weekly column tackling political and social issues, for which I was shortlisted for the prestigious Anna Lindh Journalist Award in 2011. My journalism career began in 1998 when I joined Egypt's foremost current affairs monthly magazine Egypt Today, where she was a writer and Associate Editor until I pursued a Masters Degree in Journalism, which I received with distinction from London’s Westminster University on a Chevening Scholarship. My special academic focus was online journalism. I have a previous MA in English and Comparative Literature, also with honors, from the American University in Cairo (AUC) where I taught mass media writing in 2012-2013. Most recently I was the Senior English Editor of Aswat Masriya, a now defunct news and analysis website established by the Thomson Reuters Foundation in Dec. 2011.
