Bio

Rachel Caplan is an impact producer and film festival director working with documentary films at the intersection of storytelling, community engagement, and social and environmental change. She collaborates with filmmakers, festivals, and mission-led organisations to design impact campaigns and public programmes that help films reach audiences beyond the screen and support meaningful real-world dialogue and action.

Her work spans national and international impact campaigns, place-based film festivals, and community-led cultural initiatives. She is Co-Founder and Festival Director of Montrose LandxSea Film Festival, Scotland’s environmental film festival, and has led major campaigns including the UK impact campaign for The Oil Machine and UK engagement for The Last Musician of Auschwitz.

Rachel previously served as Executive Director of the San Francisco Green Film Festival and Director of the International Ocean Film Festival, and has worked across programming, audience engagement, and cultural strategy in the US and the UK. She also mentors emerging practitioners through the UAL Impact Storytelling Fellowship.

She is particularly interested in impact strategy, inclusive audience engagement, and ethical approaches to documentary storytelling.
