Bio

Director/Producer Norah Shapiro left a decade-long career as a public defender in 2002 to pursue documentary filmmaking. Her short film "A Sacred Heart" won the 2006 Minnesota History Center’s Emerging Filmmaker Award. Her first feature, "If You Dare," (2009 feature documentary about a theater company that mentors inner-city kids premiered at the 2009 Hot Springs Documentary Festival, had it's broadcast premiere on Twin Cities Public Television in April 2011, and received a starred "highly recommended" review by Library Journal. During production on “If You Dare,” Norah first learned of the existence of a Tibetan Beauty Pageant, and was hooked by the apparent paradox and inherent questions of cultural identity. She began production in Dharamsala, India in 2006, and is currently in post-production working on a rough cut assembly. In addition to her independent documentary productions, Norah produces documentary-style videos for nonprofits, and archival video documentation for artists, performers and individuals.
