Bio

Filmmaker Maria Fortiz-Morse is committed to telling stories about people whose voices are rarely heard. As a Stanford MFA student in documentary film and video, Fortiz-Morse created character-driven films that raised larger social issues. Her work includes Trash-Out, which explores the housing crisis through the eyes of contractors cleaning up a foreclosed home, and Keith and Daniel, an intimate look at a mother caring for two disabled sons in the Midwest. Fortiz-Morse says one of her goals is to advocate for children by documenting the world through their eyes. In her thesis film, Little Mom, she tells the story of two adolescent girls who help their families care for their disabled brothers. She plans to continue making independent films in an effort to raise awareness of contemporary social issues across a wide audience."
