Matt Gilligan

Lawrence, Kansas, United States

I grew up in suburban Kansas City and graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Film in 2001. After working a variety of production jobs in Chicago for five years, I decided to attend graduate school at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte to study History. My motivation for going back to school was to improve my research and writing skills, so I could be better suited for the world of documentary film. I wrote, directed, and edited a 30 minute documentary studying the evolution of post-war British youth subcultures as part of my Master's thesis. I also recently co-directed and co-edited a 15 minute historical documentary for a private client in North Carolina. My research interests are very broad and it has always been my goal to combine my passions for History and Film. I am currently residing in Lawrence, Kansas, but my schedule and ability to travel are very flexible.
