Bio

With a postgraduate degree on Communication Studies and a specialisation on documentary filmmaking, Angelos Tsaousis having an eleven years experience on the audiovisual sector, in 2011 took the decision to focus mainly on producing/directing creative documentaries with an international co-production potential. His main objective is to explore the potential of using documentary form as a social impact and educational tool. Being a nomad himself, travelling around the world and exploring human stories is his motivation for creating cinematic narratives that speaks of social issues.

The New Plastic Road is his first major feature length documentary film that explores the socioeconomic changes in the mountainous and destitute communities in Pamirs, in southeastern Tajikistan. A co-production with the German/French broadcaster ZDF/Arte, a MEDIA Development Fund and Greek Film Centre supported project that makes an understanding on how the reconstruction of the old Silk Road has affected the life of the main film character: Davlat, who is a well respected businessman in the region and a humble father of three children.

With an extended participation on pitching forums, knowledge of budgeting, crowdfunding and developing treatments for international projects, but also mastering directing skills on storytelling never stops exploring the potential of using documentary as a social impact tool. A significant example of the storytelling impact is his project Robotics For All, an interactive documentary film that tells the story of two talented young boys Alexandros and Theodore who are the youngest members of the first Roma Robotics team in Greece who managed to overcome theĀ  wretchedness of their segregated community and travel all the way to US for the World Championships of Lego Robotics. The film follows their life-changing journey in their personal lives as well as on robotics, and is as much about finding their playfulness as kids, as it is about their continuous struggle for education.

With the support from the Fulbright Artist Scholarship (2016-2017), he will be visiting the San Fransisco Film Society for exploring further the documentary funding potentials in US film market as well as the educational capabilities of documentary storytelling. His aim is to master his storytelling skills, develop further the project Robotics For All and initiate a documentary centre in Thessaloniki, Greece.
