Bio
Andrea Passafiume is a veteran film festival programmer and writer based in the Washington, D.C. Metro area. She is currently an Associate Programmer for the Tribeca Film Festival, Programming Associate for the Sundance Film Festival, Lead Programmer for the Seattle Deaf Film Festival, and member of the Screening Committee for DC/DOX. Previous Programming positions include Head Programmer of AFI Docs, Programming Associate for the Athena Film Festival, and member of the Screening Committees for DOC NYC and Camden International Film Festival. Andrea has served as a judge for the Gracie Awards, a juror and moderator for a variety of film festivals, and a member of the nominating committees for the Cinema Eye Honors and IDA (International Documentary Association) Awards.
Andrea is also a seasoned film writer and researcher, having contributed numerous articles to Turner Classic Movies (TCM), American Film magazine, and the National Film Preservation Foundation. In 2015 she researched and co-wrote the official tribute book for the 43rd AFI Life Achievement Award presented to comedian Steve Martin in Hollywood.
Andrea began her career at Turner Classic Movies in Atlanta, where she served as Media Services Supervisor before moving to Los Angeles to work for the American Film Institute for several years. She has taught a variety of college film classes over the years, and is currently a member of WIFV (DC Women in Film & Video), NYWIFT (New York Women in Film & Television), FWD-Doc (Documentary Filmmakers with Disabilities), and NAD (National Association of the Deaf). Andrea received her B.F.A. and M.A. in Cinema Studies from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. She also earned a Certificate in ASL (American Sign Language) in May 2023.
