My name is Rose, I was told about this forum by a filmmaker that came to Jackson Hole, Wyoming where I live. He suggested I visit this site & pose a question for you, to get more insight on this topic. Many thanks in advance!
I am a professional voice over talent. I've done TV/radio commercials, voicemail systems, corporate narrations, how-to videos, iPhone apps & video games. I've always wanted to expand more into the audiobook field & documentary area. My friends & I in the VO industry have noticed in the last several years, there has been less of a need for voice over actors in documentary films.
Do you think this is true overall? That the trend is to develop a documentary with the voices that exist within the film taken, or a narrator is still needed in specific circumstances? If so, when would a filmmaker need a narrator?
Again, thank you for your honest insight!
Looking forward to the responses on this ~
