Hi, I'm Cory. For the past four years I've worked as a field producer and researcher for the filmmaker Michael Moore (I worked on SICKO and CAPITALISM: A LOVE STORY). I'm now interested in making my own documentary and would like to learn more aspects of doc filmmaking from the ground up.

I'm currently taking Thom Powers' class at NYU and learned of d-word from him. So far, and I'm sure it's not going to change, it's a great class!

I run The Edit Center in Manhattan where we teach editing (FCP). In short: we partner with filmmakers to have their films go through the class – where the students assemble a rough cut of the filmmakers' film. If interested, you can check out more at

Personally, I've just come on to produce a film about Paul Liebrandt – the youngest chef to receive 3 stars from the NY Times. It's my first full fledged producing gig so I'm looking forward to talking to other doc filmmakers here. I'm sure I'll have many questions in the coming weeks.

Nice to meet everyone!

We are an independent record label not a big bad corporation out to sue you for file sharing, we WANT you to spread our music around. If you are looking for quality creative commons music for your productions why not visit our website and take a listen. If you have a limited budget and we believe in what you are doing we may be able to offer certain tracks for free in return for publicity.

Dear Doug, Am new to D-word! I was wondering if you had a contact email for Nina Chaudry at Wide Angle? Are you coming to Hot Docs this year? Johanna

I am a senior at Elon University (North Carolina) majoring in Media Arts and Entertainment: Cinema. I am having a blast in a class called Producing the Documentary, working my way through Michael Rabiger's book "Directing the Documentary" (which is where I found out about this website). I'm just beginning to work on a short doc called "Contrary Movement" about contra dancing, filmed around Asheville, NC. I would appreciate any help/advice/networking you can give!

Welcome, Johanna and Katie. Johanna, no, don't have Nina's email address (someone else here hopefully does). Yes, I'll be at Hot Docs this year. Hope to see you there.

Hello, I'm Jennifer. I've been working on a documentary about my sister for the last 10 years. She is developmentally disabled and a fascinating subject. Right now we're collaborating on a video blog to foster discussion and interest in the project. I've worked in Film, Comedy and Video Games since graduating from UCLA. Some of the films that inspire me: Genghis Blues, The Sound and the Fury, Fast, Cheap and Out of Control, The Cruise.
