I think an introduction is due as it has been ages since I did this d-word thing. It has sure grown! Anyways, I just finished my film EL GENERAL and am coming out of the water after a few years of being totally immersed.
I'm set up to produce and edit in both NYC and Mexico City and I'd really like to take advantage of this cross-border production capacity and be in touch with others who are straddling the border... I'm in La Roma in Mexico City and Clinton Hill in Brooklyn.
welcome (again) natalia! too bad that i missed you and daniela at the LAFF screenings of EL GENERAL, but i had to travel to NYC at the last-minute. anyways, i hope to catch your film soon at another festival or on P.O.V.
Hola, Natalia! Nice to have you come out from the darkness and into the shining light of the mighty, grown-up D-Word, at long last. And much congrats on all your success (I knew her when, folks)! Will El General be showing in NYC any time soon?
Thanks for the welcome back! Yes, El General will be at Lincoln Center in September and at the Museo del Barrio in November. I will be sure to join your "shameless self-promotion" and post the screening details.
Natalia, I saw EL GENERAL at Sundance, and we briefly met at a reception there. The film is excellent!
Yes, be completely shameless about it, Natalia. As long as it's not Sept 3rd (the evening of our 10th Anniversary Bash), I'll do my best to be there for the Lincoln Center screening. In fact, let's make it an occasion for another D-Word f2f (we can never have too many).
I'm a Sound Engineer in the Seattle area. A local Producer and member turned me on to your site and I thought I should say "Hi" instead of lurk. I've worked on all types of projects but I really enjoy the doc world. The last doc project I worked on that's been completed was A WINK AND A SMILE by Deirdre Timmons. A film about 10 women and a local burlesque class for non-professionals.
I'm looking forward to learning from your community and, if I can, passing on some of my knowledge.
In reply to "Doug Block's
Doug, I posted a reply to Melanie, but didn't intend for all the info to be public... oops. is there a way to hide it? (I'm so bad at these things!!!!)
Not sure which post you're referring to, Natalia. If you go to it and click on the blue "Reply to this post" arrow above it, then re-post what specifically you want me to hide, I can do something about it.
Hi guys. I've been absent from this site for a year or so and am back for more.
The process of making and showing Three Soldiers was intense. Spending time with families in mourning, learning about documentary distribution, raising a family and oh yeah, that damn job.
Thank goodness I woke up last month knowing what my next project will be. I'm relieved – wasn't sure for a while whether there would be a next project. Nice to come back to this site and find the friendly banter and invaluable inspiration.
Welcome back, Shailly. Glad to see you're still in one piece. Feel free to fill in your member profile when you get the chance.
I'm a new member here. NYC based doc filmmaker. Produced and directed over 16 short docs for television and science and tech vids for the web.
Currently working on a feature doc about screenwriting guru Robert McKee.

I have a short doc (10-25 (?) mins, approx)I'm looking for an NYC based FCP editor for, strong story editor. Also, looking to be like a sponge and learn everything all of you have to offer. Thanks.
Welcome, Bradley. I'm fascinated by McKee. Haven't taken his workshop but I highly respect his book, Story. Enjoyed your trailer, keep us posted on how it's coming along.
Welcome Bradley. Sounds like a tough project to be working on McKee's "Story"! Good luck with that.
Hello to all at the big D, my name is Emile Guertin, I am an editor of several years cutting mainly for Discovery and NatGeo, but am now turning my attention to directing my long-planned indie doc about faith in Manila, Philippines.
It's a character driven portrait of several Filipinos and how they reconcile their fate with the divine. It's my first doc as director, but as a strong storytelling editor, it feels like a natural progression for me to be behind the camera.
My initial reason for joining D-Word is to seek creative support and advice as I venture down a path I have not trodden before! Shooting in a couple of months.
Influences on me Joseph Campbell, Karen Armstrong, James Longley... and others.
Currently based in Sai Gon, Viet Nam, originally from London, UK.
Oh as an extra note, most notable indie project I cut was 'Bunso: the Youngest', directed by the lovely Ditsi Carolino, Manila, Philippines. Premiered at IDFA 2004. Here's a clip if anyone's interested.
A special welcome to The D-Word, Emile! I think you're our first active member based in Vietnam. :-)
Hi you all, I'm a documentary film director and producer based in Spain. I'm half french and half spanish and lived for many years in Germany... I guess that makes me really an european... I have a small production company with two colleagues but friends. We are now working in several documentary film projects that would need international coproducers, so I am working on creating a network of people and see what happens. I'm looking forward to the interchange in the D-Word. Visit our website www.elegantmob.net to know more about me/us. All the best. St.
Hi Stephane. We were just talking about your film, ONE HUNDRED METERS AWAY, over in Views on News a few days ago. Welcome.
Hi Jason, hopefully next time I won´t miss the conversation...
You can still take part in it, Stéphane. It's part of the beauty of conversations at The D-Word – they never really end. A warm welcome to you and Emile.
Hello, I am documentary film student in Zagreb, Croatia and I am writing my final school paper under the title "Documentary Film Distribution"..any good thoughts on possible literature adn where and how to find it?
