Email digests can be selected at the bottom of each Topic or on the My Topics page. You'll receive the new postings in the selected Topics by email rather than by logging in. Not just a notification.

As for logging out, you had to close the browser with Cafe Utne (one of previous platforms). Now, you can just use the Log out on the top right of every page.

Not sure what you mean with archives. Archived topics are all with us.

Not sure what you mean with file store either. The Resources page hosted by an inactive member? If so, we never had any releases on there, just some sample budgets and proposals that are pretty much out of date now. As soon as our previous platform allowed us to post attachments, there was no need for separate hosting any more. You're the first one to miss these files.

Just b/c we haven't posted like David, doesn't mean there aren't others who miss them as well. It's nice to have resources in one fixed place. But I suppose the fix is to do a search on "release forms" or "releases" and create a tag if some smart soul hasn't done so already.

I love the customizing abilities of the new D-Word format, but, and I may be the lone moron who has this problem, I have accidentally hid topics probably ten times while trying to go back to topics list. I've noticed and fixed it immediately about 9 of those times, but at least once, I didn't realize for like a week that I was missing a topic. I guess I'm not even sure why someone would hide topics in the first place. Maybe put the option in a different place where I don't accidentally click on it. Of course, if I'm the only one, than... well, don't worry about it, I just need to work on my mouse skills.

It has happened to others, too. I think we just need a bigger space between the two links.

is there a way to page thru topic like before? ie, i start at the top and then just keep clicking thru all postings in all topics until i'm done?

Yes, Sarah, the "Read xx new postings..." link at the top left of the list of Topics will take you on a cruise through all Topics. To get from one to the next, click on "Read next Topic with new postings..." at the bottom of all Topic pages.

For those of us who are vain, how we get around showing our age in the profile section? I tried to get rid of mine (or at least change it to a more desirable age), but it didn't give me any options (in fact the most recent birth date I could select was 1973), so I opted for being born in 1900 – which makes me 107.

Laura, if you check my profile, you'll see that I won't be born for 5 more years. January 1st, 2013 to be exact – I want to be the first child born after the end of the current Maya calendar. (I'm guessing they, whoever the great and wonderful "they" is, updated the pulldown menu in the edit profile section per your suggestion)

That's weird – it only seems to allow for the year that was set originally plus the following five years.

I think we can officially confirm this as a bug. :-)

I've been informed that the server hosting The D-Word had a brief outage from 00:39 GMT today. I hope nobody was affected by this. Apologies if you were.

I'm looking into the birthdate bug...

And just to let everyone know, our host is going to move our server as a precaution against another outage. So the site will be down for about 5 to 10 minutes sometime between 05:00 and 0:700 GMT on Monday 3 March. Apologies again, but this should cause minimal disturbance and will insure further stability.

Those of you concerned about celebrating the wrong birthday can now adjust your profile and rest at ease. I fixed the bug and it will now let you choose any age between 12 and 100. If your age falls outside of those bounds, please let me know and I'll expand the options.

One hopes that someone makes it necessary to expand beyond 100. smile.

Fearless Leaders:
I have a request. It would be nice to be able to spell my last name correctly here on the mighty D. One is not allowed to have an apostrophe (and probably hyphen or any other common symbol used in names), and it's not permitted to have two capital letters in one word. I'm sure there are a few other D-Mc's, Mac's, or O'Whatevers who would also appreciate. I suppose I could simply sign each and every post, spelling it correctly. But the D-Cops wouldn't like that....
