Hi there, for some reason I keep having problems updating my Current Location in D-Word.
When I make my edits to that field and save my work, it doesn't reflect my changes, even after a day or two.

In my profile, but then I just tried to update it in my post as well, without success.
Seems to work fine for me.
I also edited your last post to show a new location, and it works. Then went to your profile to change the default there, and it seems fine. Please try and change it back to what you would like there...

I'd love for there to be a way for individual D Worders to 'save' particular posts for future reference – kind of the way one can put items in a 'wish list' or 'shopping cart' or 'favorites' list. Any possibility of that?
It was much discussed in our special redesign topic, and it's on the list of things we would like to figure out if possible.
There's a little bookmark-tag icon on every post. If you click that an option to "add a tag" appears. Click "add a tag" and then you can type in "favorites". You will then be able to find all these posts by clicking Tags at the top of the page and then click on your "favorites" tag. You can of course use different tag names to organise your favorites.
Taking into consideration the overall slow / unreliable internet here in Liberia – I've been having some trouble accessing the D-Word site over the past couple of months. Back in February, I posted something, and while looking for my responses, I could only seem to 'fully load' the site every couple of days... until suddenly, I couldn't load it at all. Basically, my computer (and the three other computers here I've tried it on) kept saying that the page had loaded, but all I could see was blank white. Today is the first time I've been able to properly visit the site since then. ... Anyone else ever had this problem? Could it be something about my IP address (I know some sites block IPs from places like Nigeria...)? And/or some setting I need to change? Any thoughts would be great – as I would obviously love to keep being able to access the site in future!

Thanks Doug – I hope so too. However, good news is that three days in a row now the site has worked for me! So at least that's a positive development.
Hi Arwen, I would guess that it's something related to your connection rather than The D-Word specifically. Have you had similar problems on other sites?
The Sound and Music topic seems to be ginked (is that a word?). Maybe too many simulposts about an hour ago. Can't seem to reply or get rid of the "read 1 new post after yours."

Hi, I've tried to change my profile picture so it looks more professional and have a foto in my group of fotos here labeled "April Tan" that I have selected as my main foto, yet my old profile foto remains.

I wonder if there might be way to make sub topics – for example, DSLR cinematography under the cinematography topic. The cinematography topic follows technological developments – it is all about the C300 these days – and I feel very low tech asking DSLR canon 5D questions.
DSLR's have a big enough user base to warrant it, I suspect.

Having gone through many pages, I found 90 out of 100 professionals are from USA. There could be a reason for it. I suggest The staff should do some thing to make a global forum to accumulate more members internationally.
Ananda, thanks for your suggestion. More international diversity is something which has long been a major goal and effort of The D-Word and we are always open to suggestions of how to expand not only the number of internationals counted among our professionals, but engagement of people from many countries as active participants in these discussion topics.
I am not sure what you mean when you say "global forum" – could you be more specific as to what you mean by this?
Also to clarify, The D-Word has no staff – the five hosts are all volunteers (three of us are based in North America, two in Europe, and one in the Middle East). In terms of outreach, we do not currently have an operating budget to be represented as an organization at various international events – our outreach is all by word-of-mouth not only from the hosts, but by members. So please encourage your colleagues in Sri Lanka and elsewhere to join.

how can I kill the colour backgrounds on my own display, please? I understand this might be liked by others but they are too much – totally saturated – and I find them irritating when I am trying to read. Thanks very much.
It should only be a light gray on the posts you've read, Jo-Anne, and white on the latest since you were last on. Are you sure your display is working properly?

I mean the borders, Doug – I have been getting background around the texting boxes, with very strong colours. This is very, very hard on my eyes. The off-white beige that I see around the text boxes in this topic is comfortable. Sometimes too much graphic takes you out of the words.... Maybe there is a way to just check an option button to make it b+w (like on cameras) – that would be the easy way not to deprive others of the strong background colours if this is what they prefer.
Something's clearly wrong, Jo-Anne. The borders should appear as a very light plum color. Hopefully Peter Gerard or Ben will weigh in on what might be causing the problem for you.

You already chose a good Topic for for the tape conversion question (Production ) – if you're looking for a crew then that's one of the very few exceptions to the "no double posts" rule as you can choose both Professional Classifieds and Public Classifieds (if you so wish – the latter is Public, the former for Professional D_Worders only)
I was thinking of posting a query about exec producing a doc, and didn't see a good "home" for the question among all the topics. There is of course a topic for directing. I wonder if there's a quorum of members (dare I speak NewYawkees and say "minyan") on d-word to justify a separate category?
You're right, Vivian, it's strange that we don't have a Producing topic. Production (Nuts and Bolts) and The Legal Corner usually covers much of that ground, but maybe we should have our own Producing topic.
A suggestion for the new upgrade, assuming it's not already in the works: program the site to add a title attribute when using the "samplehotlink :http://sampleURL format to generate hotlinks in text so we see where the link is pointing on hover. Seems odd to not have it. (Ha, had to go back and remove one of the quotes because it tried to make it a hotlink. Doh.)
It's already there when topics are linked to (as in John's post above).
Just a thought.
Hi all, what is the deadline for making the 'Email Digest' of topics? I posted in professional & public classifieds two days ago and didn't make the next day's digest. I did notice there was a post made after mine in the digest but there was only one post included for that topic not five. Thanks so much!
The email digest is personalised for you and only includes posts you haven't read yet, so your own posts will never appear in your personal digest. Hope this helps!

I was hoping to be the hero and put you over your 15 for 15 goal at the last minute but I'm too late. Alas, I couldn't even log on to the campaign. I'm logged on to d-word and then asked to log on again. When I try, using my d-word password, it says I'm using an invalid password.

In the player, you need to use your Distrify password if you've previously used them – not your D-Word password!

What's the diff between these 2 topics: "Documentary films" & "REcommended Docs"?
Recommended Docs is a public topic, for folks to recommend great docs that they love, particularly to a documentary loving public. Documentary Films is a professional only topic for ongoing conversation about films, critiques, spirited debate etc. If you look up at the top of any topic, you'll find a short description that captures the gist of what it's about.
Got a birthday present from Peter yesterday: "99+" post counters for The D-Word to make catching up less intimidating. You can also easily post multiple attachments now, as shown here. Just a wee taster of the big upgrade that's to come.
Ben – not sure if it's related but in B&G and Photo Album, posted photos are showing upside down in the thread but right side up once you click on them. Just thought I'd flag it. Might be user error.

Is it possible to change the "99+ new posts" setting back to show me the actual new post count? I understand that some people have some sort of psychological block with seeing a big number there, but I actually like having that information. Helps me decide which thread to catch up on first.
