BASIC LEGAL ISSUES FOR DOCUMENTARY WEBINAR
Tuesday, June 1 2010, 7:00pm – 8:00pm
Eastern Standard Time (GMT- 5)

Unexpected legal issues can bring documentary production to a halt. The old adage, “The best defense is a good offense” rings true in filmmaking. This webinar with Entertainment and Media Attorney Laura Possessky will highlight the basic tools every producer needs to have in place to ward off legal woes. We will discuss when and how contracts, clearances and insurance may be used to effectively produce a documentary that is commercially viable and ready for distribution. The webinar will include a presentation and a 20 minute live phone Q&A.

This webinar is appropriate for anyone who is making their first independent documentary or for more experienced international filmmakers who want to understand basic legal issues for films in the United States. Since the webinar is conducted entirely online, all you need is Internet access at a computer with speakers or headphones at the time of the webinar and the ability to call in to a U.S. phone number via landline, cell phone, or Skype. There is no software to download.

Registration open until 1 hour before webinar begins. This session will NOT be available on podcast so if it's of interest, try to catch the live webinar.

And if you're in the DC Metro area and prefer face-to-face workshops, Docs In Progress also has one coming up this Saturday:

AUDIO TECHNIQUES FOR DOCUMENTARY VIDEO
Getting good audio on location can make or break your documentary and save you countless hours of trying to “fix it in post.” This one day workshop from experienced sound recordist and instructor Michael Boyle will focus on production styles and audio requirements with an emphasis on small crew documentary shooting. Through a mix of lecture and hands-on activities, participants will gain knowledge of the operation and set-up of basic audio equipment. This workshop is recommended for producers, directors or anyone interested in upgrading your production sound knowledge. Prior audio experience is not required. Producer for Documentary Feature

I am a theatrically released, PBS distributed filmmaker seeking an experienced New York City based producer to help create and launch a highly topical documentary about darkness, redemption and wisdom. In addition to professional producer skills, the candidate must have a proven trackrecord of fund raising for films and garnering financial support from corporations, foundations and philanthropists.

This is between a 12 to 18 month long project. Now in development, so far approximately 30% of the film has been shot, a solid treatment with promotional pieces has been created and locations selected. This is an ideal time to bring your talents, drive and vision to a very important work. This project has NYFA as a fiscal sponsor and the producer salary is generously budgeted.

Please send resume, links to your work and a cover letter with an emphasis on your fund raising successes to newdocnyc@gmail.com

Calling all documentary film lovers in the NYC area!!

I'd like to announce the Screening and World Premier of "THE MINUTEMEN" Movie at the Brooklyn International Film Festival. Next screening, this Thursday June 10th, followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers.

"The Minutemen" is a documentary about ten overly vigilant patriots who took it upon themselves to protect the Southern U.S. border from what they consider an "invasion" of Illegal Immigrants.

We follow these self-appointed watchdogs as they fight to regain their sovereignty as well as their own sanity in an isolated and dangerous landscape. Shot over the course of four years, the film examines the motivations of and relationships between these conflicted patriots.

With the new Arizona immigration law raising the public consciousness about border issues, "The Minutemen" Movie gives insight into the role citizen watchdogs play in influencing government policy.

SCREENING TIME:
10:00PM Thursday June 10th, 2010

LOCATION:
IndieScreen
285 Kent Ave. at S 2nd st
Williamsburg, Brooklyn 11211
