If you are a filmmaker yourself, we would like to invite you to contribute your own short documentary to WAR & PEACE. To do so, you need to join The D-Word Community first. Founded by documentary filmmaker Doug Block, The D-Word Community celebrated its 2nd Birthday on September 2nd, 2001. A private, online conference of documentary professionals, the community evolved out of Block's home page The D-Word. Membership is free, and, in the past two years, almost 500 documentary filmmakers from around the world have registered. The community consists of individuals with a range of documentary experience and expertise including first-time directors, established filmmakers, editors, producers, writers, professors, an animator, and others. The D-Word Community functions as a support network and a shared resource. Filmmakers share ideas, encourage each other, and exchange information. The community is structured around a wide-ranging list of documentary discussion topics that are easily navigated and permanently archived. Some are information-oriented (DV Production, Documentary Festivals and Distribution, for example), some inspire lively debate (Documentary Ethics, Three-Act Structure) and some are for shooting the breeze and howling at the universe (the ever-popular Doc Bar & Grill). In the all-too-isolated world of documentary filmmaking, The D-Word Community fills a deep void. It's called a virtual community because it's online, but the camaraderie and sense of community is very real. We hope you'll join us and help us continue to thrive. Joining The D-Word Community is easy but not automatic. Please go to www.d-word.com/join for further instructions. If you are no documentary professional, you can still join the discussions at our public forum. To register for The D-Word Forum, please go to www.d-word.com/register. |
