Hi everyone! I’m Erin, an amateur documentary filmmaker based in Boston. I recently moved from New York where I was interning at Jigsaw Productions and Four Corners Media. I run my own freelance video production and post-production service, which has proved quite successful thus far, but am hoping to transition from the scattered nature of freelance projects to a career in feature-length documentary. I love the storytelling process and believe that documentary offers a unique outlet for knowledge that makes it one of the most important tools for education in the 21st century. I look forward to learning from and participating in the D-Word community.

Hi everybody,
My name is Christie Strong and I'm a filmmaker currently fundraising for my first doc feature 'Bombshell: The Life of Maria Stinger.' I'm very excited to join a doc-minded community, where I can learn from others and share some of my own adventures :) My website is www.StrongFeatures.com and I'm located in Miami, FL.
Hi, Christie. Bombshell sounds quite interesting, and I especially like the personal angle. Good luck with that. Feel free to register for full membership here, which will give you access to many more discussion topics.
Erin, please don't feel ignored. Of course we're welcoming you as well!
Hi everyone!
My name is Kellie and I'm a college student in Valdosta, Georgia. My major is International Documentary Production, and I'm loving every minute of it!! I've been in love with video and media since I helped my brother film a project when I was 14. I realize I'm still wet behind the ears and have a lot to learn, which is why I am very excited I found this website!! I'm fully open to discussions, advice, and of course making new contacts in this industry.
Hello,
My name is Sergio I live in London and work internationally, my background is in music composition for film. Two years ago I founded Big Bang Lab, a cultural-social enterprise working across Film, Music and Heritage to achieve social change in communities. After a project in Delhi (www.delhi-citysymphony.com) I am looking for production companies to commission the making of documentaries of our projects with young people and the cities.
First I need to pitch to commissioners and get the money!

Welcome, Sergio, and good luck getting that money. It's quite a noble vision you have there. And welcome, as well, to Kellie and, of course, Erin. Sorry to have overlooked you initially.
And thanks again to Michael Rabiger, whose classic book on Directing The Documentary continues to send new folks to The D-Word.
Hello!
My name is Jill.
During a hiatus from directing my first documentary, "STRIPPED"... (Okay, after my first one, I said I'd never make another one and got sucked into it again) I actually learned how to shoot and edit and started my own production company www.shootingninjas.com. Currently am finishing a film about female boxers, depression and post traumatic stress disorder, called "Fighting It." I am looking forward to connecting with other doc filmmakers and finding some community here.
Great to have you here, Jill. Remember our meeting at DocuClub many years ago, glad to see you've stuck it out.
(Reminder to self: don't say anything even remotely nasty to Jill... ever!)
Hi everyone, my name is Patricia. I'm a documentary filmmaker from Holland, based in Rio de Janeiro. Last year I finished my first doc here. Right now I'm trying to get financing for a new project in a women's prison in Rio. We hope to start shooting in March 2010. If you'd like to know more: www.faveladocumentary.com
I'm looking forward to connecting with fellow filmmakers here.
Greetings, Patricia, and a warm welcome to The D-Word. Best of luck with your film, too.
How is everyone doing?
My name is Stefani, and I'm an MFA documentary studies student at Hofstra University. Right now I'm trying to spread the word about the program to prospective students and supporters as a graduate assistant under Skip Blumberg. I'm also a novice at film making so learning about more about the doc industry is a must. Hello!
Hi everyone!
My name is Steve and I love making documentaries. :) I'm a former student of the Academy of Art in San Francisco, CA. Recently, I just finished my debut short film, The Sundowner. I'm excited to develop future projects with my producing partner, we're very open minded and willing to help collaborate. Nice to meet you all!
Hi Doug,
Kristof again (after a while on d-word again) – I am currently studying at the National FIlm+Television School in UK for the 2 year MA Documentary Direction. Currently I am preparing my subject for this MA
dissertation to be written next year. I am thinking of making a paper about personal documentaries and their influence on the family/relatives. Etc (I just started off) and I might like to interview you about it.
Would that be possible, by skype for example? Just let me know, it is not urgent. regards, Kristof
In the hidden section, my details:
Welcome back, Kristof. Feel free to email me about setting up a skype intv, but won't have time until I'm back from IDFA.
The sidebar is nagging me to introduce myself, which I clumsily forgot to do when I joined last year. It's GREAT to be here and have input from such a distinguished group of pro doc makers. I recently completed a feature-length doc, GIRLS ON THE WALL, which was a co-production with ITVS (great experience working with them). It just premiered in the city where it was shot, at the Chicago International FF, winning a Special Mention jury prize. The site for the film is www.girlsonthewallmovie.com
In the past I've produced and directed many hours of factual programming for A&E, Discovery, MTV, and am excited to bring what I've learned the hard way on the indie doc trail to new television projects.
Thanks to the hosts for providing this great space.
Hi Heather, and officially welcome. I enjoyed your film. Especially Whitney. What a great character. How's she doing?
Congrats on your award, Heather, and thanks for finally outing yourself. Come back often, ok? We've had more than enough silent Heather, especially given all you have to offer. (And love seeing you doing karioke!)
Dear All,
You are invited to the Film Festival : Humanity Explored –
The film festival where we gather and explore Our voice – as citizens of different locales of this earth, sharing the same cosmic resources that sustains life in us, dreaming the same future, experiencing same fundamental emotions, living similar life stories, yet intensely feeling separation among us. Can we feel 'interconnectedness' or 'oneness' by sharing what fundamental emotions, needs and dreams unites us, and question/contemplate the divisive perception of 'otherness'? Lets celebrate our collective spiritual evolution by contemplating the contemporary cultures & societies, through cinema.
