Dear Citizens of D,

I'm producing and directing my first documentary, "To Them That's Gone", along with three partners. The film is about the Run for the Fallen, an apolitical memorial project that traveled across America last summer to honor service members killed in the Iraq War. We are now in post-production and the fundraising continues.

I'm proud to say we just launched our website and new promo piece at www.tothemthatsgone.com. I'd be honored if you would watch the piece, and any feedback would be greatly appreciated (email below).

My prior experience includes picking up a few tricks while assisting Doug Block for a stretch, during the production of "51 Birch Street"; and assisting/shooting additional footage on "Jacques d'Amboise in China", which recently aired on HBO.

Hello, Everyone. After a small break, I'm back. The look of D-Word has changed a bit (for the better I'm sure). I commute into DC from Md (60 miles each way). I work for the Govt during the week (a steady paycheck) and help those that I can, any chance I get. I've 20 + yrs experience and if I don't know something, I probably know someone who does. I am a Quebecer but i shot this film in France... It's about a group of man and women building a 13e century castle today the way they do it at this time. The doc have 50 minutes running time. I like to follow this adventure and try to find the way to do a kind of co production.The first one it's made and it's in the final post.

I'm Jonathan Archer and I work for ITVS. My colleagues held a special week-long conference last year, and it's archived on this site. If you haven't searched it for info, I strongly suggest you do. In the pursuit of broadening our services to the community, however, I'm experimenting with going the other way – instead of a forum, just 140 characters. I have been happily strolling through this pretty fabulous site for the past couple weeks and have already gained a lot (shoot wide open on digital cameras!).
High time I introduced myself. I'll do it like an AA meeting.
I'm geoff feinberg and I'm a long time lover of documentary. During the day I work as a freelance editor (last worked on marshall curry's latest doc as an ast. editor), but during the night I'm scheming away putting my own docs together. At the moment one of the things I'm working on is getting the guts to make a self funded, one man crew shoot in India. Takes a lot of balls and risk (doubly so to do it on ones own dime). But thats what this is all about, eh?

I just finished a short film on my father who is a muralist in Northwest Indiana, it is called Pete's Portrait. I am currently working on another short doc about a director of an improve troupe. I just found out about this site, and I am really enjoying it. I'm also pretty new to the business having just graduated college and am in the process of looking for work in Boston. In this search for employment I have encountered the need for a website with my video work on it. I have videos on Current but I would like something that I can update frequently sort of like a blog. I have a site, that only showcases my photography that I would like to replace with video. Any kind of HTML template suggestions so I don't have to buy flash would be really helpful. I am a budding documentary director/producer/entrepreneur. Recently I've decided to focus my career towards (mostly made for TV) educational/informative/socially relevant documentaries. I would like to create my own production company that develops and produces programming for the likes of NatGeo, Travel, History Channels, etc... I have no idea where to get started!! I would really appreciate any insight from anyone in this field.

Hi I'm Tom Lennon (Thomas Lennon in writing, as in credits.) I've already had an introduction of sorts – Doug Block said, "Tom Lennon is a good friend, and a D-word member who never posts." Fair enough. But I want to get the D-word habit, because I'm stunned by how vigorous and helpful the conversation is. I've been a documentary filmmaker for a long time – started out indie, then to ABC News in the eighties when people like Marcel Ophuls were there, Alan and Susan Raymond – then out on my own, where I did a lot of work for Frontline and the American Experience that I was v. proud of. In the last five years, I've had one foot in documentary, and the other in ...what to call it... public service media, I guess – Ruby Yang and I did a lot of AIDS awareness spots in China, the first such campaigns ever aired in China. I want to keep a foot in both worlds if I can...that's me. Looking forward to ducking in and out of this conversation.

Thomas and Ruby also took home an Oscar for their work in China, as he humbly fails to mention.

Amy, I did a study year abroad at Trinity a long time ago and it was the only time where I ever really connected to my faith of birth – perhaps because it was the only time where I felt like such an obvious minority. Look forward to hearing more about your documentary and knowing more about the state of Judaism in Dublin today.

Tom – whatever happened with your film, "Tongzhi in Love"? I saw a screener of it last fall and thought it was a complete knockout. Has it been playing festivals?
