HI, I'm Patrice and the founder of the Going Green Film Festival. Wanted to reach as many doc filmmakers as possible and let them know that we are looking for their "green films." If your film was created using green techniques, or if your subject is about the environment/third world issues, or you feature alternative transportation in your film, then you qualify. Please visit our website at www.GoingGreenFilmFestival.com for more details. Twitter @goinggreenfest

Hello D-Word fellows... I am finally introducing myself now even though I have been a member since my D-Word F2F pitch in Washington in June. James L, thanks for encouraging me to be more active on the D-Word scene. I am an Egyptian-American TV journalist & filmmaker. I can't imagine doing anything professionally enjoyable more than making documentaries. This year, I quit my stressful TV news job to work full-time on my ITVS-funded film on the plight of Iraqi refugees. I love making interfaith and social justice films where I feel I can make a difference. I hope I can be active in your discussions and to make many filmmaker friends... www.JehanHarney.com

In reply to Patrice Williams's post on Tue 6 Oct 2009 :

Nice idea for a festival Patrice, but rather disappointing to see that only US citizens are eligible for the Grand Prize...what's the thinking behind this?

Hi, All! James Longley introduced me to this site. We share two things in common--we're both from Seattle and we're both drawn to "post-conflict" parts of the world (in my case, Afghanistan). I'm a doctor and novelist by profession, but have just secured funding to make my first documentary film about midwives in Afghanistan. I will be producing the film, and have assembled a wonderful crew--director Havana Marking (of AFGHAN STAR fame), cinematographer Bree Fitzgerald (of National Geographic), Executive Producers Holly Morris (of Adventure Divas)and Mike Lerner (of Roast Beef)– so I am in good hands despite my lack of experience. Scouting will hopefully begin in a few weeks once I sort out some legal, editorial, and financial issues. If anyone has experience trying to make an independent film with USAID funding, please let me know! We don't have a website yet for OPERATION MIDWIFE--A LABOR OF LOVE ON THE AFGHAN FRONTLINES, but you can learn more about my novels and global health work at nassimassefi.com Looking forward to "meeting" or at least interacting with you. Cheers, Nassim

Welcome, Nassim. Normally, we don't encourage people to register for full membership until they've had more professional doc experience. But any friend of James is a friend of ours. So do sign up and we'll happily follow your progress and help where we can. Best of luck with what sounds like a terrific project.

Hi, Doug- I'm finally back. Does this print my name? It is Andy Garrison here. Got a few projects in the works. The previously completed documentary is THIRD WARD TX. Webpage is www.ThirdWardTx.com. Self-distributing with New Day. The New Day URL is http://www.newday.com/films/ThirdWardTX.html.
One current project is about a choreographer who collaborates with non-dancers to make performances. I spent the past year shooting Allison Orr working with the City of Austin's Solid Waste Services
Division. You can see a sketch of a scene idea on Youtube at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2u01-xZl6Q.
More later,
Andy

Welcome back, Andy. Yes, it does print your name automatically above every post, so no need to sign at the bottom, either. Glad to see you've been so busy (as if that's an excuse not to be posting regularly!).

Hi All, Currently shooting my first Documentary "Over the Hill Gang" A true life story about a group of elderly gentlemen who served together in the Irish Army Reserve(FCA). Most of them retired in the 1980's. To gain membership of the "Over the Hill Gang" One had to be an Artillery Soldier and possess one or more of a certain set of skills.... Singing, Reciting Tales and Myths; Poetry and Rhymes or play a musical instrument.

Like the sound of that, Martin. If only all armies insisted on these skills...
