Hi, All! James Longley introduced me to this site. We share two things in common--we're both from Seattle and we're both drawn to "post-conflict" parts of the world (in my case, Afghanistan). I'm a doctor and novelist by profession, but have just secured funding to make my first documentary film about midwives in Afghanistan. I will be producing the film, and have assembled a wonderful crew--director Havana Marking (of AFGHAN STAR fame), cinematographer Bree Fitzgerald (of National Geographic), Executive Producers Holly Morris (of Adventure Divas)and Mike Lerner (of Roast Beef)– so I am in good hands despite my lack of experience. Scouting will hopefully begin in a few weeks once I sort out some legal, editorial, and financial issues. If anyone has experience trying to make an independent film with USAID funding, please let me know! We don't have a website yet for OPERATION MIDWIFE--A LABOR OF LOVE ON THE AFGHAN FRONTLINES, but you can learn more about my novels and global health work at nassimassefi.com Looking forward to "meeting" or at least interacting with you. Cheers, Nassim
