My name's Kyle. I'm just finishing a rough cut and teaser for a documentary I've been working on for 2+ years about a hobo legend who never worked a day in his life. I've produced and directed a number of shorts for different outlets in the past and worked as an associate producer on the documentary film "You Think You Really Know Me" about musician Gary Wilson.

I'm glad to meet you all. I've heard a lot of good things about this site from colleagues! Thanks for having me.

My name is Kirsten and I'm a fairly new documentary filmmaker but I'm very eager to learn as much as I can. I'm currently in post production on a documentary about a Paralympic swimmer with cerebral palsy. I'm also in pre production for a documentary I'm co-directing on self-harm.

I can't wait to become addicted to this site. Virtual heroin sounds awesome.

Thanks Nick! I've quickly gotten hooked on this D-Word drug, but I'm with Graeme in needing to remember to get back to actually finishing my film – so I can put all this good advice and inspiration to good use! =)

Hello Doug & all members. Im Mohammad Aasim Saleem from Karachi, Pakistan. Currently Im employed with a leading news/current affairs channel in my country. I have over nine years of experience in producing, directing, scripting and etc. having produced documentaries, live transmissions etc. etc.

Also gained experience in developing feasibility reports for channels and now, Im working on expanding my horizon. D-Word should certainly be a wonderful experience to come across and intereact with professionals from varying backgrounds. Looking forward.

Hello everyone !

I'm an independent documentary filmmaker, producer, writer and editor (and a few other things). My first language is French. My latest film "L'encerclement – La démocratie dans les rets du néoolibéralisme" ("Encirclement – Neo-Liberalism Ensnares Democracy") has had it's world premiere at Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal (RIDM) in 2008 and it's international premiere in this year's Berlinale Forum section. It was released theatrically in Montréal (Québec, Canada) last February and it's currently touring a few festivals: BAFICI, Visions du réel, IndieLisboa, Documenta Madrid, Hot Docs, Viennale, Oslo International Film Festival, Ghent Film Festival, etc. I've been awarded a M. Joan Chalmers Award (Best Canadian documentary) for my first film "Trop c'est assez" ("Too Much Is Enough") and a Pierre and Yolande Perrault Award (Best emerging documentary filmmaker) at this year's Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois for "Encirclement".

I've just found out about D-Word – which surely looks like a nice place to meet doc people and exchange – through Hot Docs.

In September, the Independent Magazine listed the Documentary Institute as one of the 10 best documentary programs in the country. But now, the dean of my college wants to eliminate it. As some of you might be aware, the College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida is planning to terminate The Documentary Institute, a highly respected graduate program that has helped launch hundreds of careers in the documentary field. In an era where the fields of journalism and communications are in a state of flux at best and turmoil at worst, the documentary form is a thriving medium for exploring contemporary issues. A documentary training program such as The Documentary Institute is vital to the nonfiction media-making community.

Hello to all. I've actually been a member of this forum for a number of years, although I've never posted (feels like I'm taking a very big step right now..) I do want to congratulate you on creating such a wonderful space – I find it an incredibly useful resource for all things technical, but most importantly motivational. Doc filmmaking gets a bit lonely at times and it's nice to know there's a whole lot of people out there who've been down that road..

I've been working on a project called Cinema Komunisto for a couple of years now (it's been a long and interrupted development and shooting process), and have finally reached the editing stage, so I've re-located temporarily to Los Angeles for the edit. Would love to meet fellow documentary filmmakers in a town that doesn't seem to have much time for that world...
