A virtual pint of special on me for you Pete.
I could do with a pint of special myself. Can you add one as an attachment please.
Difficulties with The D-Word? If you can't find the right answers on our Help page, please post in this topic. Ideas for future D-Word releases or projects can be posted here as well.

Also, people with hyphenated names will get correct capitalisation the next time you update your profile!
hmmmm that didnt work as planned-
here's what I really want
Not wishing to take this to the bar where this is still ongoing, I wonder why when I am not logged in to d-word, and my share this publically box is unticked, I google David Herman d-word and come up with my whole profile warts and all?
David, make sure you are fully logged out. You would see the attached.
until a fix for long url's is here, you can go to tinyurl.com and make them little....
what the f is fully logged out? do I have to smoke something?
Click on "Log out" ( top right of page or http://www.d-word.com/login/logout )
Chris, it's much easier to use the labelled URL formatting (click the blue help icon for instructions). The link above could be:
Try again:
Very Important Thing will link us to a very important thing
and
An even more important thing will link us to something even more important.
I think that was more information than I needed this evening. Bonne nuit.
For those of you who still want to play around with the various new features for your posts: We are going to close Play with The NEW D-Word in three days.
As a pilot project to spread the D-Word among documentary professionals, we're sharing our Sheffield Doc/Fest discussions with their website. The public can only see the discussion with Heather and Fleur, logged-in D-Word Members will also see the Sheffield F2F and general discussions. All data remains with us on d-word.com.
Just a thought - unless I'm missing it, shouldn't there be a one-line tag saying what the D-Word is on the page you link to? I know people can find out by going there (here), but surely there's room for "the longest-running online community for professional documentary filmmakers" or whatever.
This is strange. Marketing and Distribution is not showing up in any of my topic lists, though I can get to it through the search...
sean, the universe is saying just go out and make your film and don't worry about where it ends up ;-)
or maybe it's saying go to My Topics and make sure it's selected...
maybe this just my browser...if I am reading a topic and click to view someone's profile, I can't get back to the topic using the browser's back button. I have to follow the 'topics' link and then try and remember which topic I was in.
Must be a browser setting... something that tries to reload stuff instead of just going back...?
What combination of OS and browser versions are you using?
OS 10.4.10 and Firefox v.1.
It doesn't happen with other websites.
Your browser is very old. I'd recommend upgrading. It sounds to me like this might happen only if you've posted before you click off the topic. I'd recommend not using the back button. Instead, when you click the member's profile link, hold down the Command (Apple) key and the link will open in a new tab or window.
Drat, I knew I'd end up having to upgrade something.
Thanks Peter!
hey i had a post disappear too! just like marge! oops, marj!
(i was telling riley it was fine to feel good about yankees fans feeling bad, so maybe some new yorker sabotaged it)
Marj just hit Preview instead of Post. I guess that's what you did, too?
Ben - actually I updated a post on my problem here: http://www.d-word.com/topics/show/94?post=126164
if you get problems like that in the future, please email me date and time (including timezone) of the error ASAP and I'll check the logs...
Not sure where this should go so here it is in Help. Seeing as how there is a photo album thread is it possible to have a similar one for on-line video links?
Any chance of moving the navigation links that are below the "New Post" section to above the "New Post" section? Since I use the "next" function far more often than posting a new message, it would reduce the amount of scrolling I have to do to get to the "next" link.
We'll have video attachments as soon as we leave the Beta stage behind us, Nick.
John, I would like to have your problems... :-)
Judy, I moved your post to the Distribution topic:
is there any way to make the post box and the edit box bigger? if it's not too hard?
use a magnifying glass or (on a mac) go to system prefs > seeing > zoom
Or use Safari 3.0 (Mac or PC) which has resizable text-boxes. However, it might break the rest of the layout...
This isn't a big problem but curious nonetheless. When I select a topic in the list and it takes me to the particular site, if for instance the topic has 16 pages to it-with a most recent post, say, four hours ago-I am instead taken to, say, page 9 with posts that are a week and a half old instead of the most recent (or heck, even if it took me to the beginning with the very first posts would make more sense).
Any reason for this? I'm on a Mac OS 10.4.11, Safari 3
Oops, so obviously the double-dash isn't entirely fixed.... Sorry folks. I'll figure it out eventually!
Alan, the system remembers where you were last reading, so it takes you to the last 3 posts you have read and shows you new ones following on from them. You'll see the first 3 posts will be grey (meaning you've read them) and the rest on that page will be white, meaning they're new to you.
oops, accidentally clicked "Hide IDFA 2007 Topic"... how do I get it back?
Go to the main page and click on "my topics" or here where you can select or deselect topics to be displayed.
Hey, what gives? D-word won't allow me to see the last posting in the views on news section, or allow me to post (even show me the box that I need to post.
yes, looks like the Views on News Forum has imploded!
We'll look into it, folks (Peter G, are you here???). I not only have the same problem, I didn't even see News and Views the last few days. When I went to My Settings to see about it, turns out the topic was mysteriously unchecked.
Hmmm, maybe Chris DID break The D-Word.
Doug, you must have clicked "Hide Views on News from now on" which happens to be just below "Back to Topics List".
As for the technical problem with the last posting in Views on News, we alerted Peter.
All better now... Looks like Chris and Reed broke it together by clicking the Post button at exactly the same second. I'll try and prevent bugs like that in the future!
