Wonderful office is available for share. The office is clean and large with wood floors, high ceilings, great natural light and central air conditioning/heat. The building is safe and quiet with lots of friendly, creative neighbors on the floor: doc filmmakers, photographers, etc. Great location, a few blocks from either the 7th Avenue or 15th Street/Prospect Park F stops and lots of great bodegas, cafes, Prospect Park, Celebrate Brooklyn, etc.
Space is available April 1 for short or long term rental. The ideal candidate is someone who works independently or creatively and is not on the phone all day. You'd get a large work space that includes wireless internet, refrigerator and espresso/coffee machine. There is currently an oversized desk, chair and shelves for your use or you can bring your own.
Rent is negotiable, between $275-300, depending on your work schedule (nights, weekends, days, etc) so please let me know what kind of work you do and your typical work week--if you have one.

Looking for a Native American Documentary-maker
A NYFA thesis student from Bulgaria will soon begin shooting a doc about an Omaha Sioux family who are trying to maintain and nourish their traditional ways against rather daunting societal, economic, and now medical odds. She and I would both like to get her connected to a Native American documentarian for mentoring as she goes. It could be as significant or minimal as anyone is willing to do. She has great craft mentors through the school. And she will have the guidance and advice of several Omaha people. Still, while some of her faculty have made docs with and about Native Americans, none of the Omaha advisers knows anything about filmmaking and none of us has the prospective that an actual Native American might lend her. She'd love to find someone Omaha but will thrilled with anyone who could combine some knowledge of film making with a Native American personal perspective.

Our next DocuClub will take place on Thursday, March 22, 7 p.m. at DCTV, located at 87 Lafayette (at Walker). This month, we will screen a rough cut of Changing Face of Harlem by award-winning filmmaker Shawn Batey. March's DocuClub will be moderated by Marilyn Ness, Arts Engine's Director of Production.
Changing Face of Harlem is a one-hour documentary that examines the revitalization of Harlem told through the deeply personal stories of its residents, small business owners, politicians, developers and clergy. The film takes a critical look at Harlem’s history, early development, and present transformation. Twenty years ago, according to the press, Harlem was a crime-ridden ghetto full of hoodlums and drugs. Though recognized internationally as “The Black Mecca,” the historic neighborhood was overlooked for decades. Longtime residents weathered the storm despite the lack of city services and building landlord abandonment. Bank practices of redlining in the 1980’s prevented many residents from purchasing turn of the century brownstones within their own blocks. Recently, however Harlem has matured into a prosperous locale for commercial and corporate interests. As New York City exhausts its scarce amount of centrally located prime real estate, it has marketed Harlem as an ideal investment. With this influx of new investment has come a younger, more professional, and affluent class of residents. The film offers fresh perspectives from community members on the pressing issues of class, cultural preservation and sustainability.

Hello! I am looking for a grant writer to help with my film – Star in the RIng – it tells the story of when Jews DOMINATED the sport of boxing. It is a part of Jewish history / American history and sport history, that is all but forgotten.
I am honored to say that I received a grant from The Righteous Persons Foundation.
The ideal grant writer could start with helping me write a two page letter of inquiry that can be tailored to the foundations I have narrowed down. I am part of NYFA – which makes this project have a 501 – c – 3 status. Is anyone in need of audio post production services for their documentaries? I work independently as well as with a world class post production studio called Clatter&Din studios. WORDS OF WITNESS follows a young female journalist navigating historical times in Egypt. It premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in 2012. We are currently gearing up for our US premiere.
A minimum commitment of 3 months is required for all internships 10 hours a week. Candidate should have his/her own laptop. DocuClub Screenings: Next DocuClub Wednesday April 18th at DCTV!
This month, we will screen a rough cut of MEXICAN DREAM. Our moderator will be Vanessa Erazo of New York International Latino Film Festival.
MEXICAN DREAM is about one group of indigenous migrants who change a pastoral but poverty-stricken life in Mexico for a new home in a small meatpacking town in Minnesota. It introduces several families from an impoverished agrarian community in the state of Oaxaca in southern Mexico. It also presents a Midwestern meatpacking town that was at the center of a crushing national defeat of the meatpacker’s union during the Reagan administration, where the Mexican migrants have formed their own community that exists uncomfortably alongside the mostly white population.
A mix of observational documentary and montage with reportage via interviews and several inter-titles shows how the strong sense of community amongst these immigrants perseveres in the U.S. while the anxieties of working class life set in. The social effects on the families of migrants back home are profound. MEXICAN DREAM brings these pressing issues to light and humanizes the denigrated, undocumented “illegals.” It also discusses how these same anxieties haunt the long time white community. Shot on both sides of the border, it shows the contradictions in many Americans’ ideas about immigration
and how Mexican society has accepted it as a convenient outlet for decades.
About the filmmaker:
Jon Wetterau (Videography/Co-Producer) has worked on documentary productions in various roles in India, Central America and Cameroon. He initiated and photographed ONE COUNTRY, CAMEROON; TWO QUARTIERS. He has directed two other projects in his native Queens, New York City and has a work-in-progress about Americans gentrifying San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
About the moderator:
After having spent several years working for various film festivals—such as the International Latino Film Festival – San Francisco Bay Area, the International Contemporary Film Festival of Mexico City(FICCO) and the Havana Film Festival New York—in a variety of roles, Vanessa Erazo now acts as the Documentary Programmer at the New York International Latino Film Festival. She has curated films on a wide range of topics such as human rights, autism, sports, adoption and homelessness. Until recently, she served as the Programming Co-chair for the New York chapter of the National Association of Latino Independent Producers. She is also a regular film contributor for Remezcla—an online Latino culture guide. Vanessa holds a Master’s degree in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from New York University, and a B.A. in Political Science from San Francisco State University.

My name is Jenny, I'm a second year doc MFA student at Hofstra with a BFA in film from UCF. I looking for an internship this summer. I'm not above slavery, but as a poor, starving graduate student paid is preferred. I've interned with Supermarche (Catfish, Paranormal Activity 3) and have done (and am doing) several independent projects.
I speek geek, comfortable and confident editing, shooting, researching or writing... I can get a mean cup of coffee. I've had festival experience, marketing, social media, etc. Basically, I want to be around other artists, learn what I can, meet who I can and eventually become one of you.
Here's a documentary I did finding my biological mother , and here's a spec trailer of my current film about the death of my father. Willing and excited to learn anything. Those are both reflexive, but I've done and will do other types.

Writopia Lab, a non-profit that offers creative writing workshops for kids ages 8 to 18, is producing 85 plays in a two-week Off-Broadway run, May 8th to 20th. We are looking for someone to shoot all 12 performances. Each night consists of six to eight 10-minute plays. Actors will not be mic'ed, so we'll have to hang some mics or run some digital recorders to get sound.

Hey there, everybody! I am a third-year cinema student and am looking for a summer job/internship. Really, I am looking for an experience that will help me move further down the path to becoming a documentary filmmaker. I have no money, so I can't buy gear and make my own stuff yet, but I have a lot of experience with professional, prosumer, and consumer HD cameras as well as Super 8mm and 16mm. I am proficient at FCP 7 and have experience in Premier Pro, Photoshop, After Effects, and FCP X (though I hate FCP X) and am learning Avid. I have an experimental background but am in a very mainstream commercial position at my university right now, so I have experience on both sides of the spectrum. I work very well with others but also by my self. Does anyone need an extra hand or brain this summer? even if you're traveling and need someone to take care/keep track of your equipment I would be down for that (I just need the experience of being involved with a professional production so I feel more sure of the whole process when I start my own next year)

NYTVF – Lifetime Unscripted Development Pipeline
Lifetime Networks, home of cable’s number one competition series, "Project Runway," and TV hits "Designing Spaces,” and "Dance Moms", has teamed up with the NYTVF for an innovative initiative seeking concepts for original unscripted television programming from independent artists and production companies.
Twenty-five semi-finalists will be considered by Lifetime with five finalists each receiving $2,500 to shoot additional tape. One winner will receive $10,000 and the opportunity to participate in pilot production with the network.

Between 1988 and 1996, John Smith made three quasi-documentary works that register the disastrous effects of the construction of the M11 Link Road on the filmmaker’s East London neighborhood. While all three function to preserve the memory of this vanishing landscape, and implicitly participate in the large-scale protests that met the highway’s construction, Smith — one of England’s most consistently inventive avant-garde filmmakers — puts the material to various suggestive uses, crafting three very different formal investigations whose unfolding stimulates a profound reflection on memory, time, history, and the lived experience of the city.
John Smith will appear via conference for a conversation with UnionDocs Critical Writing Fellow Colin Beckett.
