Internship in Outreach for New Environmental Documentary

The Subject
You already know about climate change. But did you know climate change affects the ocean? Some of the excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is dissolving into seawater. It's changing the pH, making seawater more acidic; some say "corrosive." This water actually dissolves the shells of certain shellfish—clams and oysters, for example, as well as tiny plankton—and coral reefs. The effects are working their way up the food chain. Imagine a world without fish: it's a distinct possibility.

A Sea Change is the first documentary about this effect, known as ocean acidification. The film combines hard scientific information-—we interview internationally known scientists—with the personal story of a family of fishermen. With Sven Huseby, retired educator and concerned grandparent, we travel from Norway to Northwestern America, learning about the scientific, economic, and cultural implications of ocean acidification. Target completion date: December 2008.

This is the third film by director Barbara Ettinger of Niijii Films. Her work has screened at Sundance and been broadcast on PBS.

Internship Details
The focus would be web-based: researching ocean acidification, contributing to our blog, driving traffic to and creating content in our various social networks. You'd need access to a computer of your own and work mostly virtually, with face meetings bi-weekly: our key crew members are based in Brooklyn, Germantown, and Philadelphia.

The possibility for non-virtual activities will emerge, as we develop partnerships with local organizations in connection with a number of 2009 events.

This internship is for you if you like to do research, to write, are interested in environmental issues and filmmaking, especially distribution, and are comfortable in the web 2.0 world and able to work independently.

Check out our website to learn more about the doc: http://aseachange.net.

This is a volunteer position, open to current students and anyone interested in working with us.

If this sounds appealing or you'd like more information, please contact angela*at*aseachange dot net.

At least they're new.

I've never heard them called anything else more elegant that actually makes sense, but I'm open to suggestions...

I'll try them out if you want to know they work... ;)

Our Los Angeles-based documentary feature has recently acquired funding and now seeks a full-time producer. The ideal candidate will be able to begin work immediately. Interest in environmental and political issues is a plus, although this is a very personal story as well.

Of course, details of the project will be discussed with those who have a serious interest in participating. Thank you for understanding.

Please forward a letter of interest and a resume to bryankt1@yahoo.com, preferably in .pdf format.

All responses are welcome. I look forward to hearing from you.

Zeitgeist Films will be releasing two great documentaries on DVD this fall. The first, coming out October 28, BILLY THE KID, is the first feature from director Jennifer Venditti and is a wonderful film about a fifteen-year-old kid in a small town in Maine who is both different and wonderfully unique. Info can be found here:
http://www.zeitgeistfilms.com/film.php?directoryname=billythekid

The other, which comes out November 18, is UP THE YANGTZE, a film by Yung Chang that has been a great sleeper box office hit this summer, about people who are affected by the huge public project of China's Three Gorges Dam, and the tourist boats that travel the Yanqtze River. Gorgeously shot and engaging, this is a great cinematic doc. More info is here:
http://www.zeitgeistfilms.com/film.php?directoryname=uptheyangtze

Both are available direct through http://www.zeitgeitstvideo.com or through Amazon, Netflix, or your favourite store.

Thanks!
Laure
