Docs In Progress returns to Washington DC with a new set of screenings on
Tuesday, June 10. The public is welcome to join us and the filmmakers
as we screen two documentary works in progress and ask for your
feedback on the films. While audience participation is encouraged, it
is not a requirement for attending.
We'll be screening:
A 63 minute rough cut of RACHEL IS (by Charlotte Glynn)
A personal film about the filmmaker, her family, and her sister
Rachel, who is developmentally disabled and is transitioning from
school to living in a group home.

The featured film is Stages by the Meerkat Media Arts Collective. The film follows a group of older Puerto Rican women and youth of color who unite in New York City's Lower East Side to create an original play based on their life stories.
The Meerkat Media Arts Collective is a New York-based interdisciplinary group of artists dedicated to making media with a non-hierarchical and inclusive creative process. Erica Ginsberg, managing director of Docs In Progress, Inc., a film organization based in Silver Spring, Maryland, will be moderating.

below, sound recordest needed in Germany. I noticed it in Craig's Berlin list this morning and by chance the person posting is someone I just worked with. Nice guy.
I don't think we have German sound recordists on The D-Word, so that's a bit pointless. But www.crew-united.com lists 259 of them. If your colleagues find someone locally, they could save the money for airfare and accommodation and instead actually pay the guy... However, for that, they would need to get the location right. "Neuhosen" doesn't exist in Germany.

Thanks for the link, Ben. And people know people – and some independents can also do good sound recording in that context. The airfare is Euro-local, not from NAmerica, of course. And I didn't write it, so if Neuhosen is a phonetic spelling for wherever he (a French mother-tongue cameraman) is – someplace near the south at amusic fest....
Why are you picking on posts I make, Ben? I think more laterally than some people, and try not to be frivolous, but we have been around the block on this. If you think I am not contributing here, then cool, I leave.
And by the way, it's a paid gig, not posh but paid nonetheless. On top of meals, accomodation and transport.
According to the original post the gig does clearly seem to be "expenses only", so Ben's point is reasonable. Maybe you should forward his suggestion?
Earth Films is looking for an experienced feature-length doc editor for our film on the Earth Liberation Front. This is a very exciting project about a timely, important topic that touches on key issues facing the U.S. and the world at large: ecological destruction, social change, terrorism and civil liberties. It is a character-driven story with a solid, well-defined narrative structure supported by extensive, intimate and exclusive (or near-exclusive) access to several of the main people in the story.
Principal photography on the project is complete and all tapes (approx. 40 hours) have been digitized in FCP. Transcription is nearly done and we have a music producer/composer in place. Shooting was done on a PD 170 in DVCam with a small light kit for indoor scenes. Sound was recorded on Sennheiser wired and wireless lav mics with occasional use of a Sennheiser shotgun mic.
Shooting style is a mixture of sit-down interview and interactive-cinema-verite, where the filmmakers' influence is clearly present in the story development and in the relationships with the characters. There is also a significant amount of archival footage to work with. We're very much aligned with the Documentary New Wave camp, being open to whatever storytelling methods best suit the material.
Ideally, whoever comes on board will have edited at least one feature-length doc and have name recognition and experience that will help us to sell the show and find funding for her/his salary. If you don't have that and you think you'd be a good fit for the project, please get in touch anyway! While our budget is minimal so far, we’re now actively starting fundraising. We are not asking anyone to work of a deferred basis (though we wouldn’t turn down the offer).
We’re putting a WIP together now for the Sundance Doc Fund submission deadline in early July. The right person could start immediately by helping finish that. This would be a good way to assess “fit” for the larger project. We have sufficient budget for this phase.
We're located in Northern California, but can travel. We also have easy access to the S.F. Bay Area. If an editor is mobile, we have a nice studio space with a digital projector and PA system and basic accommodations in Garberville, California. We also have the same in Southern Arizona for winter-time work.

Brooklyn Documentary Arts Collective Seeks New Resident!
UnionDocs is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit documentary arts collaborative and presentation space. Currently, our primary program is The Documentary Bodega Series, featuring new and challenging documentary film and audio works every Sunday evening in our Brooklyn screening room. The series is produced by the Resident Curators of UDR, the UnionDocs Residency Program for Documentary & Media Studies. We also produce a podcast and blog, featuring short media pieces inspired by discussions at the Documentary Bodega and beyond.
UnionDocs is looking for a new resident starting this summer. The UnionDocs Residency (UDR) combines an excellent and cooperative living situation with an opportunity for immersion in independent cultural production. Six carefully selected people live together in a historic building at a great location and collaborate to produce a festival-quality documentary series in the first floor screening room.
322 Union is a great place to live. It has a lot of shared resources and a lot of opportunity for fun while also having adequate privacy and a comfort (not always found in NYC communal living). There are three floors, a basement, a grassy backyard with a grill and deck, a big second story porch, and skyline views from the roof. The location is close to excellent transportation making most cool spots in Manhattan and Brooklyn within a short subway ride.
The first floor is a commercial space run by the program director. It includes the screening room, 2 studios for working media artists, the UnionDocs director’s office, and access to the basement which has been sound-proofed for music rehearsal and audio recording. Resources on the first floor are readily available to UD Residents outside of the schedule for the Documentary Bodega Series.
On the floors above, there are two nicely-sized three bedroom apartments with a living room, kitchen and bath. Both have wood floors, get lots of light, and were recently renovated. Bedrooms can be locked, but common spaces are shared by the six residents. One is better for cooking large meals and socializing and the other more appropriate for reading, working, and watching films. The common spaces are furnished, so residents need only bring the contents of their bedroom. The building has high-speed internet, a VOIP phone, and washer and dryer.
About $975/month plus deposit. Anticipated grants will help subsidize this.
