We had to set these things, there was no way to hide them.
I am interested in advice on how to find right person (film maker) and fund a small documentary style effort and what might be interesting goals / benefits that makes it a win/win for company and film producer. Budget would likely be shoestring, but could be an interesting experience.
Say you have a big event every year like MacWorld (AppleWorld) or an auto show (but put on by only one company, not a tradeshow)... you show off your latest products, you launch 2 or 3 new things, and you show a vision of where your company is going (concept cars, or other physical immersive manifestations). You have to entice the media and your top customers to attend and you want to broadcast and create discussion around all 3 parts of this event experience...
I am exploring how a highly experiential event with similar attributes could leverage film/documentary storytelling in interesting, meaningful ways – meaningful to the company, its stakeholders, and the film maker...
Some nice to have goals for company might be:
+ capture people's reactions around new product innovation at large/major event in Eastern Europe (new product concepts around several themes, dramatic event experience in major city, new products being launched, other interesting products being demonstrated/show for sales in both business to business and business to consumer arena)
+ capture value design is adding to business
+ possible interviews with CEO/CMOs from top companies
+ many other areas that could be mutually interesting if discussed... but trying to understand if this might be interesting to a qualified independent film maker or high potential starting out
There could be two cuts... both would likely be very people-focused. But, one could capture essence of business value and the other could be all around creative/design side of things.

DocuClub, a New York-based film series of works-in-progress documentaries, is seeking submissions for 2008.
The format of DocuClub is to screen a rough cut and to have a moderator facilitate a discussion of the film between filmmaker and audience. Past films that have been screened at DocuClub include "Born Into Brothels," "The Boys of Baraka," and "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster."
DocuClub is accepting entries that fit the following criteria:
- They are in the rough cut stage and thus ready to be screened
- They are no longer than 120 minutes and no less than 45 minutes
- They have specific challenges that you wish to workshop

The Utopia Film Festival showcases short and feature-length works which entertain and enlighten audiences of all ages. Fiction, Documentaries, Animations, Music Videos, and Experimental Films are all welcome. This year's festival will take place from October 24-26, 2008 in Greenbelt, Maryland.
The Utopia Film Festival is an annual cinematic event, now in its fourth year. It reflects the utopian ideals of Greenbelt, Maryland – one of America's first planned communities. Located between the urban centers of Washington DC and Baltimore, Maryland, Greenbelt was designed and built under the Roosevelt Administration's New Deal Federal Works Program in the 1930s. It remains a vibrant community and its historic city center (where many of the festival events take place) has been designated a national historic district.
While we encourage all submissions, these are special strands which we have planned for 2008:
UTOPIAN VISIONS: Films which address themes of community building, promoting diversity, bettering social and economic conditions, or preserving the environment.
KID VIDS: Family-friendly animated or live-action works. Films produced by children and teenagers are especially encouraged.
HALLOWEEN SCREEN: Since our festival coincides with the week of Halloween, we welcome submissions of serious or spoofy horror films appropriate for the season.

Subtitling job for a German speaker:
Someone wants to have his late father's video Holocaust testimony subtitled from German to English. The interview has already been transcribed and translated. Length is 1:43.
Having just worked with subtitles myself, I know that it works better when the subtitler speaks the native language. That's why I'm passing up this opportunity.
It would be easiest if the editor lives in the States, since the tapes are in NY, but an accomodation could probably be reached if this is not the case.
