I'm working on a project that follows the process of running a fair
trade business, and I need two interviews done: 1 in Washington DC;
and 2: in Gainesville, FL. I'm not getting any money for production,
so I'm hoping that someone who lives in each area would be interested

What: Filmmakers, broadcasters, lawyers and scholars rally to explain and discuss how documentary filmmakers are taking back the right to claim fair use of copyrighted material in certain circumstances using the new handbook Documentary Filmmakers' Statement of Best Practice in Fair Use. Documentary filmmakers across the country are learning how to utilize this new 8-page handbook developed by filmmakers for filmmakers and vetted by a legal team to understand when and how to use fair use. Ah, but some of us need to cast actors and voiceover artists for our
documentaries. I am in the midst of this and wish I'd been to such a
seminar before running current round of auditions...Which brings me
to a similar event, being sponsored by Women in Film and Video in
Washington DC:

WORKING WITH TALENT - WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1
Women in Film and Video's ongoing "Wednesday One" professional
development series returns on Wednesday, March 1 with a program
focused on how to work with the amazing wealth of talent in the DC
area. This panel will help producers and directors better understand
how to get the right actor for a project, whether it's a fiction
film, commercial, industrial, documentary reenactment, or voiceover
narration. What can you tell from a head-shot or demo reel? What's
involved with working with a casting agency? How do you run an
effective audition? What do you need to think about contracts and
unions? And, once you get your talent on board, what kind of
direction do they need from you?

Panelists will include actor Michael Gabel, producer/director
Virginia Williams, entertainment attorney Kurt Klaus, TV One Casting
Director Nikki Webber, and local SAG/AFTRA rep Jane Love.

The program will take place at the historic Charles Sumner School,
1201 17th Street (at M Street), NW Washington DC. Closest Metro

Sundance Institute seeks intern 15-20 hours/week to assist in
producing/programming Sundance's 25th anniversary project in New York
this spring. Duties will be largely administrative, but will give the
candidate the opportunity to work in the programming department of
the Sundance Film Festival. Looking for someone passionate about

Docs in Progress returns on Tuesday, March 28 with politics and music
on the mind. If you want to be a part of what has become one of the
most provocative and fun film discussion events in Washington DC, you
won't want to miss it.

Every other month, Docs in Progress showcases works in progress by
local and visiting documentary filmmakers. Following a screening of
each film, moderators and Docs in Progress founders Adele Schmidt and
Erica Ginsberg lead the audience in a feedback session with the
filmmakers. This month's films address politics and music:

AMERICAN FEUD (by Richard Hall and Simone Fary) probes inside
liberalism and conservatism to find out what those terms really
mean even as they become labels which divide our nation. Running

I REMEMBER BABE (by Ray Bolger and Jesse Achtenberg) follows musician
Steve Keith on a journey back to New Orleans and the
Mississippi Delta to learn more about the life and legacy of his
