The Going Green Film Festival is currently taking submissions for our April 2010 Film Festival in Beverly Hills, CA. This is the only festival of its kind to focus exclusively on green filmmaking, from production to content!
Shorts/Features are being considered for three main categories in the festival:
*GREEN PRODUCTION, where a film’s production worked to lessen the carbon footprint left on the planet (with sufficient documentation of this process);
*OUR PLANET, where the film’s topic covers third world issues, ecology, nature or the environment; and
*HYBRID/ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION, where the film features a hybrid vehicle, bicycle, electric scooter or public transportation.

Vivian Norris de Montaigu, a producer based in Paris, has contacted me to help her find a good videographer in the Washington / Baltimore area to shoot one or two interviews on October 22nd or 23rd. It's in conjunction with a documentary about Pres. Obama's mother. My usual people are all booked; can anyone give me some leads? I don't know Dr. Norris de Montaigu personally, but she comes highly recommended by a friend in the area of microfinance, a subject that I've dealt with a lot. She's also developing a feature film based on the life and work of Muhammad Yunus of Grameen Bank in Bangladesh, Nobel Peace Prize winner in 2006 and someone I've also worked with a great deal. She wants to shoot in high def, and would rely on the camera person to arrange for equipment and quite possibly also a sound recordist. Here's a link with info about Norris de Montaigu:

This is your opportunity to work on a short documentary film (5-10 minutes) in a group (3/4 person crew) in a supported environment. During these weeks you will be encouraged to think about how to use your stories/footage/first films to leverage yourself into the next phase of your work. After all your hard work you will be able to enjoy watching all the finished films at a screening hosted at the London Film Academy.

We are looking for a talented editor for a feature length foreign documentary with a strong narrative. You need to have solid experience in character development and story structure.
Editing will begin in either December or January and ideally, you will be able to travel abroad to edit, but this is not a deal breaker (flight and accommodation will be covered)
You should be skilled in editing in Final Cut, have a quality reel with broadcast credits and references that can be checked.

Our October DocuClub will take place on Wednesday, October 28, 7 p.m., at the 92YTribeca, located at 200 Hudson Street (at Canal). You can take the E, 1, or 6 trains to Canal.
We will screen a rough cut of BAD BLOOD by Marilyn Ness. Through the eyes of survivors and family members, BAD BLOOD chronicles how a “miracle” treatment for hemophilia became an agent of death for 10,000 Americans. Faced with evidence that pharmaceutical companies and government regulators knew the product was contaminated, they launch a powerful and inspiring fight to right the system that failed them and to make it safer for all.
Director/Producer, Marilyn Ness, is a two-time Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker with 14 years of experience. She founded Necessary Films in 2005, directing short films for non-profits and developing documentaries including BAD BLOOD and GENOME. Prior to that, Ness spent four years as a producer for Director Ric Burns, collaborating on four award-winning PBS films: ANSEL ADAMS; THE CENTER OF THE WORLD; ANDY WARHOL; and EUGENE O’NEIL. Ness’ other credits include films for TLC, HBO, Court TV, and National Geographic, as well as films for the PBS series American Experience and the theatrical feature THE LIFE AND TIMES OF HANK GREENBERG.
Other credits for BAD BLOOD include Editor Marian Sears Hunter, Director of Photography David Ford, Writers Sheila Curran Bernard and Marilyn Ness, and Coordinating Producers Kristen Vaurio and Christina King.
Our moderator will be Robert Bahar. Bahar is the Emmy-award winning producer/writer of the documentary MADE IN L.A. Funded by ITVS, POV and the Sundance Documentary Fund, MADE IN L.A. premiered on PBS' POV series in 2007 and has screened extensively at festivals around the world. The film, which has received an Emmy Award, the Sidney Hillman Prize and a Henry Hampton Award from the Council on Foundations, is currently the focus of a multi-year DIY outreach and distribution initiative. Bahar previously produced and directed the award-winning documentary LAID TO WASTE, and has line-produced and production managed independent films including ITVS’s DIARY OF A CITY PRIEST, which premiered at Sundance, and PITTSBURGH, which premiered at Tribeca. In addition to his work as a filmmaker, he is the director/co-founder of Doculink, a grassroots and online community of over 2,500 documentary-makers. He has served on the Board of the International Documentary Association and holds an M.F.A. from The Peter Stark Program at USC.

I'm producing a one day shoot in Boston this Thursday for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation(www.rwjf.org) documenting a teen led event to promote healthy relationships and prevent dating violence among young people. Could anyone recommend a documentary style photojournalist who could shoot stills of the event? We're looking for local talent in Boston, someone who is unobtrusive, who can tell a story through moments, and of course high production value. Any suggestions?
