Help needed shooting over Halloween weekend in Chicago

We are making a documentary film about costumes and need experienced
filmmakers with their own gear to shoot different events during the 5
days leading up to Halloween (October 31st) in the Chicago area. We
are shooting with an XL1 and PD150 so we would like people with the
same or comparable equipment. At the moment this is a no-budget
feature, but we can offer credit in the film and free costume rentals
at one of Chicago’s premiere Costume shops, either for Halloween or
anytime during the year for use in your own film projects.

Ventana New York is looking for an Assignments Manager/Production
Coordinator to work full time in our office in New York City. This
person will handle incoming scheduling requests for crews, equipment
rentals and scheduling of edit facilities. They will also be
responsible for the day to day operations of the office i.e.
coordinating crews, location scouting, administrative office work,
and preparing for large production shoots. They will also handle
updating and coordination of a large pool of freelancers. The
Assignments Manager will work closely with the Washington office
handling billing, time sheets for full time staff and freelancers.

He/She should be a self starter who is willing to organize and
implement protocol for a busy production office. A “can do” attitude
is a must. This is a great opportunity to work in New York City on
an office of talented individuals.

To all videographers,
A national voting rights organization called People for the American
Way has organized an Election Protection program where tens of
thousands of volunteers will be monitoring the polls on Nov 2nd,
Election Day, particularly in the battleground states. They have also
amassed 5,000 volunteer lawyers to work with them.

I am organizing videographers around the country to also work with
them so that any irregularities and illegalities can be documented
for purposes of press conferences, footage for the mainstream media,
possible lawsuits, etc. If there is obvious fraud, there might be
subsequent demonstrations etc.

I need volunteer videographers to contact me who live in: Florida,
Ohio, Iowa, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, West Virginia, New
Hampshire, Michigan, Oregon, Nevada, Maine, Washington, and Minnesota
as well as Georgia.

I am looking for a part-time editor for a documentary project about the "video-film"
industry in Nigeria.
I have over a hundred hours of footage and need someone who
lives within driving distance of upstate NY
(limited to people in NYC metro area) tohelp me out with organizing,
editing the film. I have a track record of having a film
play on PBS nationally and am hoping to secure the same for this film.
This is a paid,but part-time position for the next two

I am currently in pre-production for a documentary I will be shooting in Minneapolis in
December that will be featuring two hip hop musicians affiliated with Rhymesayers
Entertainment. I would like to produce a DVD of the documentary once it is finished so I
am trying to find some sort of profit sharing contract that I can sign with the musicians I
am working with to specify who gets what if the doc. ever makes any money. I have
searched through "The Complete Film Production Handbook" as well as a book of
contracts for independent filmmakers and haven't found what I am looking for. I would
draw up the contract myself but I am afraid I might miss something that will bite me later.
Does any one know where I might find a mock up of a profit sharing contract that I can
use?

Hello everyone in Southern California,

SmartSound Software and the International Documentary Association are hosting a Soundtrack Creation Workshop and Screening on Dec. 7 at Culver Studios in Culver City. I would like to encourage anyone interested in learning how to maximize their scoring budget while getting the highest-quality result possible to attend this event.

At this unique soundtrack creation workshop, independent and documentary filmmakers will learn the latest tips and tricks to create professional-quality soundtracks for projects of any budget. Filmmaker Rick McKay will share the secrets he used to score his award-winning documentary *Broadway: The Golden Age,* including how he used SmartSound technology and music to score almost a third of his movie for about $500. A screening of the movie and an open Q&A session with McKay will follow the workshop.

Creating a professional-quality soundtrack is a growing concern for independent and documentary filmmakers and editors. Frequent time and budget constraints make it very difficult to score projects to a level that meets their standards. This event will show filmmakers new ways to effectively score their scenes.

Anyone know a co-editor for a documentary (Talk To Me Project) that
I am working on in NYC? It is a true story about strangers who meet
at Bryant Park around a sign that says "Talk To Me". The documentary
is about more than talking when a few of the strangers are moved by
the conversation that they act on their impulse to act on behalf of
one person's struggle... and the general dilemma we all face when we
see suffering and whether or not we can make a difference? going
into too much detail, the story focuses on the decisions and
relationships that ensue. It has been featured in the New York
Daily News and on the Oprah Show, CNN, New York Times, and different
variations of the story in so much media around the world.

I have a lot of great material to edit. I happen to know how to
edit on the Avid, so I am doing it a lot myself. But I need a co-
editor. It is a great project. I can tell more to anyone wo thinks

The latest of short videos produced in and about East Austin by this University of Texas film class screens next Wednesday night. Meet Pearl Pease. Doing hair is not just a job, it is an essential part of life for the customers at the House of Elegance. Some have been clients for over twenty years. One loyal customer drives all the way from Oklahoma to East Austin to have Ms. Pease, Pearl, and Tommi give her hair a shampoo, weave, and style. Hi there, I've introduced myself and my project both at the "Introduce
Yourself" topic and in the Mentoring room. I am embarking on my first
documentary, which I currently imagine will be a 30 minute short. I
am not capable to budget either a digital cinematographer or a sound
person right now, but what I can budget is a small fee ($100, nego.)
to a professional digital cinematographer/documentarian who can give
me a few hours crash course in using my camera (Sony 1 chip DCR TRV11)
and a shotgun mike across a wide range of locales. I've shot a fair
amount before and have made short DV narrative films, but I'm not a DP
and I recognize that I need to take my skills to the next level if I
hope this fill will some day go to festivals or a screening circuit.
I'm located near Albany, NY, ie, 2 hrs from NYC, 2 hrs from Boston,
and can travel for a tutorial with the right teacher. We'd certainly
hammer out what's realistic and do-able in a few hours via phone and
e-mail prior to getting together. The right person for this job can
take my camera, tell me what everything does, hear my shooting
scenarios, and help me put together an operational plan for shooting
both interviews in living rooms and on the fly in a medical tent in

The best low end wireless system for field production work is
Lectrosonic 100 series. Modest cost. You can try the less expensive
Sennheiser 500 series units though you may do no better than your
sony systems.

The less expensive wireless systems for DV tend not to be available
used. Check out B&H's prices for new.

Cinemar Films is currently developing a feature-length documentary entitled *The
Keymaster*. Award-winning director Mario Diaz (*Bazooka*) is leading a team of seasoned
professionals that includes Chris Seward, the editor of Michael Moore*s *Fahrenheit 9/11*.

The film tells the story of William Rodriguez, a janitor in the World Trade Center on
September 11th who had the only available master key to the north tower. He is credited
with helping save hundreds of people*s lives and directly rescuing 15 people. He was the
last person to escape the building alive.

William*s heroic efforts extended far past that fateful day. He became and continues to be
the leading voice for the Latino community affected by the events of 9/11. But as he
fought for the rights of others, his life suffered severely. He remained unemployed after
the attacks and spent his savings to survive, eventually getting evicted from his home. He
continued his advocacy work during the day while sleeping in his car at night. *The
Keymaster* chronicles the journey of a man who, like us, is only beginning to comprehend
the effects that devastating event has had on his life.

The film is intended for theatrical release and is being shot on High Definition video.
Cinemar Films has brought in Director of Photography Alan Jacobsen, who photographed
2004 Sundance winner *Wet Dreams and False images*. Principal photography is slated to
start in March 2005.

Documentary Interns Wanted!

AK Films is a small, New York City based production company currently
in production on a documentary about the 2004 presidential race. We
are looking for part-time and full-time interns to help out with this
exciting, high-profile, documentary film. This as of yet untitled
project is being put together by a small team of people including the
folks who did Control Room and Startup.com. The footage will
ultimately determine the narrative of the film, but we expect that the
film will be a personal look at the impact a presidential race has on
all the members of a candidate’s family.

We are at the point where we could use additional help with
transcribing, general administrative tasks, and perhaps logging and
digitizing. As we get to know our interns, the possibilities for
other kinds of work may arise. Although we cannot offer any pay at
this time, this self-starting intern will have the opportunity to
learn about all aspects of documentary post-production and will get a
great overall picture of the process of finishing a piece for
theatrical release. This is a great opportunity for someone starting
out in the world of documentary to meet some of the top folks working
in the field, as well as to be a part of a project about a historic
presidential race.

Requirements:
An ideal candidate would be a detail-oriented person who lives in NYC
and has at least 1 year of experience working in an office and/or as
part of a film production team. The minimum required commitment is 3
days a week, but we would prefer to find interns who can be available
full time. The positions would begin immediately and run through June,
possibly longer.

Alternate Focus announces a call for Middle East-related documentaries.

Alternate Focus (www.alternatefocus.org) is a non-profit organization
that broadcasts documentaries in the United States in San Diego, New
York, Boston, Fairfax, and Washington, D.C. If your documentary covers
the occupation of Iraq, the occupation of Palestine, peace movements,
the USA PATRIOT Act, or any other issues that relate to the Middle
East, we want to broadcast them on our weekly television programs. We
will also broadcast interviews with Middle East experts, peace
activists, politicians, and anyone else who can talk passionately
about Middle East issues.
Alternate Focus has previously broadcast Hidden Wars of Desert
