Please join us to kick off a groundbreaking new evening series, UNSUNG HEROES OF DOCUMENTARY with a celebration of ROSEMARY ROTONDI, the shy master of archival research whose nearly silent talents have raised countless docs to new heights (including last year's Oscar-winner.)
(It's FREE and there'll be inexpensive wine with which to toast our inaugural hero, as many times as you want! :-)
We're inviting the entire NYC documentary community to join us at the New York Film Academy (NYFA) in its historic Tammany Hall Building at 100 East 17th Street, on the northeast corner of Union Square.
In case there are any among us who don't know, ROSEMARY ROTONDI is a world-class, beloved and much sought-after archival footage researcher, whose credits include: INSIDE JOB (2011 Academy Award-Winner), HBO’s WE STAND ALONE TOGETHER (Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, producers), REGRET TO INFORM and THE BRANDON TEENA STORY, and SO many others.
Director Crayton Robey and NYFA’s Academy Award-nominated prof, Immy Humes will join Rosemary to present and discuss her work, and to share a well-guarded secret, or two, of the trade. Then we’ll raise a glass in Rosemary’s honor. And then maybe a few more in the after-mingle.
Free for the NYC Doc community, NYFA Docsters, grads and faculty, and anyone who loves and appreciates the art of the doc.
The Unsung Heroes of Documentary series:
Let's get together to Recognize, Educate, Celebrate!
Directors of Photography, editors, sound recordists, mixers, graphic artists, designers, colorists, composers—these are the brilliant specialists who save the day countless times on countless documentary films, lending their skill and soul again and again to enable Directors and Producers to realize their dreams. But do they get credit and recognition? Love and understanding? Not enough! We thought it would be fun, fitting, and overdue, to bring the whole documentary community together to drag some of our shy artistic and technical masters into a little spotlight. We’ll explore their critical, quiet crafts and celebrate their enormous and under-celebrated contributions to the films of their far more famous directing/producing brethren.
The Honoree will present and discuss clips of his/her work, take questions, and be toasted en masse, followed by mingling with cheap drinks and refreshments. Director/Producers who have worked with the Honoree will be invited to testify to their powers. We hope to attract an intergenerational audience: film students who can learn about important professional film career paths, and Doc Makers who want to raise a glass in appreciation.
We're planning an experimental run for 3 Tuesdays this fall 2011 and if it catches on, we'll get to bring it back full force in the spring. HEROES TBA: 10/4 & 10/11
